Is there some sort of compensation that I could potentially get or is it just a money back and I can use my money to buy something else?

Thanks for the response.
I'd go for a rebate or service/mod credits, and keep the car. They owe you something.

Even if it was ordered as a used car from a Volvo dealership? I was under the impression that BMW would only be inclined to help people who bought a BMW certified vehicle or a new BMW from one of their dealerships.

I guess it maybe won't hurt to ask...

I'm not feeling unsafe driving my car produced 9/2013. My understanding is that humidity changes the chemical properties of the airbag chemical. My lease expires in october this year and i hope they don't fix it by then so i can take advantage of the incentives they offer for not fixed cars. Lease extension with $150 reduced monthly payment with $2500 credit towards the purchase at the end.

What dealership you bought it from should make no difference. The responsibility of selling an unfixed recall is perhaps even illegal, depending on local or federal laws. This is especially important since it's a safety issue. In your case, it's not a BMW issue, it's a certain Volvo dealer's.

Speaking about the dealership you got the car from. BMW dealership is only responsible for fixing the recall, not notifying perspective buyers.

The Volvo dealership you got it from had a responsibility to tell you about the recall (most likely a legal responsibility, but you'd have to check). The fact that didn't they now have the burden of satisfying you (and possibly preventing legal action on your side). If you're not happy with the car this would likely be enough to get a full refund. Otherwise they can probably give you a discount (I.e. partial refund) or service the car free for some time - it all depends what would make you happy.

And for future reference I would always request notification of all fixed and outstanding recalls on a car when buying used (dealership or not). If nothing else this puts you in a stronger position for bargaining on the price.

I hear ya. I spoke with them and they were very kind, both the BMW and Volvo dealership asked me if I'd like a loaner car (BMW said they'll take me to enterprise and Volvo said they'll loan me one of their cars). It seems like both of them are more than willing to help me out. I am surprised that they're so willing to do it, especially because I bought a 2013 BMW X1 with 25k miles for $20k. I figured they would have told me to go to BMW...

Anyway, I appreciate the responses. I'll let ya know how the actual visit goes, if anything changes in their response.

Best of luck!

And don't forget that if you take the loaner then you don't get too drive the BMW - it has to sit on your driveway (or their lot)

Was told this morning by the dealership that airbag recall service could be as far out as the first of next year (2017). Was also told that they (the dealership) received 10 but was called (by who I do not know) and was told to stop ALL replacements.

Was also told that there hasn't been any BMWs with the recalled airbags kill anybody like (other) manufactures. I'll leave out the name of the 'others' he mentioned. Somehow I don't think the faulty airbag really knows what type of car its installed in ...

I think the potential for a dangerous explosion takes years to develop. It's not that they installed faulty airbags in millions of cars, it's a chemical reaction that could not have been predicted. They will correct the problem in the cheapest manner possible; perhaps throwing in a couple of packets of desiccant.

So looks like I got the same letter now. Except funny complication - the BMW dealership can't find any recalls under VIN (they've even gotten in touch with BMW Canada and nothing). However when I check on bmw.ca my vehicle has the recall outstanding and when I emailed BMW Canada support they've confirmed that my vehicle is affected.

Anyone else had same issue?

I understand that where I live the chance of my airbag being defective is quite small, however this issue isn't exactly helping in feeling confident with the car.

That said, the dealership as well as BMW Canada have been very responsive, so I'm happy with that.

I'm assuming your dealer didn't have any issues confirming your car had this recall?

No, I haven't had a letter arrive, but after BMW was added to the list, I called my service writer and he confirmed it is under recall. No problem finding out that I can tell.

I got 2 letters, 1 for my 128 and 1 for my 335. I just sold both of those and got my X1 but bmw canada didnt know I had it, so I called up my dealer yesterday and asked, confirmed it's under recall but they don't have the parts yet and will call me when they do.

Anyone know how BMW Canada gets our address and info? I bought the car second hand, is it my local dealer who gave them my information?

I never signed up to mybmw.ca prior

Just being curious!

Has anyone received the fix?

My dealership has no idea when it's going to happen.

I'm in a hot and humid area.
