iDrive without Nav?
Through plenty of reading I still cannot answer this question: will I get some kind of iDrive system even without speccing a navigation system? ie, If you do not spec navigation do you still get the screen for various controls such as radio etc?
I fear that without navigation the space where the screen is will just be some cubby hole and I will lose the ability to control many of the "convenience" features like lighting, radio, etc. |

Some drivers get satnav simply for a pose, I prefer the extra storage without it and my Iphone for satnav (all business and personal contacts in one place, trips planned indoors, maps and software constantly updated with constant internet access) and also the Ipod for music and videos. Car systems cannot compete with the latest portable gadgets that come out, when a new feature is available next year which is easier to upgrade your phone (or netbook, laptop or Itablet) or your car?

Sorry, In December 09, you wrote that you can put a tomtom in case of the original gps. Did I understand that you can install a fixe gps solution in the glove box? I am looking to integrated a gps but I don’t like the window version and the visible wires.

I too have a cubby hole in the dash and am going to look at mounting my Garmin SatNav in as best way possible. Only had the car 2 days so not really had a chance to think it through yet.
There is a BMW aftermarket solution which appears to use a Garmin OEM device and a modified box in place of the cubby hole with lid. Looks better than the windscreen mounted standard SatNav and wiring is fed behind the dash. So something along these lines could be interesting. If you select X1 in the accessories list and Komminication and information you can see a picture of BM's solution: http://www.bmw.de/de/de/owners/acces....html?cat=1005 |
