Nissan GTR Vs BMW X1

Having some fun with a cobb tuned nissan GTR at mid-ohio. Sure, he's faster than me in a straight line but the X1 makes up time in the turns! Some other cool cars in there as well, 996 GT3, e92 M3, etc.

Ran a best lap of 1:46.07 with the chicane on street tires.

I bet if you had some brembos and KWs you'd have passed him a few times in the corners.

I could have passed him in the corners, but the BMWCCA doesn't allow you to pass without a point by, and he wasn't giving one I was lifting so I didn't ram into him.

Nice, what tires are you running? You gonna go out and get a set of slicks/comp tires?

Yes, running 255 dunlop direzza zii street tires. For the morning session I had an instructor ride with me and he said that I need to move to slicks since I am at the limit of street tires.

I am trying to decide between the BFG R1 and Nitto NT01. Nitto will last longer but not sure how much slower than the R1 they are. Instructor said going to 275 width R1 should give me about 3 seconds.

I ran BFG drag radials on my t-bird and had good luck with them. I've always liked the price to performance value of their products. Having Michelin PSS on my car now makes me wonder how good their slicks would be, although the price would sure be premium.

Nice.

Not sure though, GTR seemed unfamiliar with the track.

Yeah. The X1 is a great vehicle but not even in the same league with a GT-R. The driver of the GT-R obviously has very poor driving skills. You out drove him, but, in the right hands, it would have been no contest.

It's pretty obvious the GT-R is the faster vehicle! Just thought it was funny for a X1 to be keeping up whatsoever.

However, my X1 has about $6000 of suspension work (and is lighter than a GTR) and I would be willing to bet that in equal hands it will be surprisingly close to, if not out-cornering, the GTR. Of course it does not have the power or aero to compete over a full lap with equal drivers.

Mind sharing the mods you've done on your X1? Great driving!

Too many to list, but suspension/brakes wise

JRZ RS-1 dampers with swift springs
M3 subframe bushings
e93 M3 rear swaybar
Corner balancing
-3 front camber, -2 rear
Apex Arc-8 wheels (16lbs)
Performance Friction PFC-08
Motul RBF600 fluid

Lots of power mods too but this stuff matters more for the track.

EDIT: Just noticed the video was starting at 8 minutes for some reason, all the good traffic free laps were in the beginning! Weird.
