You will be down for 2 days or so when sending it out for unlock... rental car may be best bet...
looks like I will go JB4 then because that DME removal looks like more effort than just installing the JB4 haha. Plus I like that you can change the maps and not have to reflash for future upgrades.

Reliability is tough to say. Depends on previous owner treatment. General maintenance cost is higher. For example replacement of the AGM battery requires ecu reset which can cause 500-700. I've read quoted prices....
Tranny oil and filter change ~700
Diff oil ~ 300
Xfer case~ 400
Plugs ~ 500

That's assuming you can get the dealership to perform these tasks. Go indie or diy to save money.
Isn't tranny oil every like 5 year or something? What about the others you mentioned? Like how often?

And anyone know if this is a decent deal?

I think most i've seen here have been about 25k but I can't remember now.

Hmm and about how much is it to fix those from a 3rd party mechanic?

Our transfer case is actually pretty stout. Why is it a hassle?

Bimmer Performance Center in Raleigh does it and they can use MHD if you want. I'm looking hard at that option right now....

He's saying that changing the fluid is a hassle. No drain on the bottom of the case, IIRC, so you need to use a vacuum pump to get all the fluid out and it's pretty tight quarters under there.

I have not needed to replace anything since i have been out of warranty. I also do all of my own work so I don't know what shops are charging.

Looks like a baseline x35i with navi. Does have hid which is great but it's yellow? Suggest you try out a few X1 of different trims to get a taste of what's important to you. In Vancouver I noticed x35i doesn't necessarily command premium price.
Here is an x28i of similar vintage baseline as well. Doesn't even have hids.

The 35i is undervalued for what it is IMO. Even brand new it was cheaper than a 3 series when I was shopping.
