Is it leather?

I've got a 2014 M Sport w/leather however the leather on the doors feels rougher and was wondering if it really is leather. Is there any way to tell?

I'm certain the stuff on my doors (leather + Sport line) is vinyl. Which I actually prefer, its harder wearing so my dog putting his paws on it to lean out the window won't be a problem.

Also the center arm rest is almost certainly vinyl, but maybe they've just been feeding some cows lots of petroleum products as of late?

I think the arm rest is vinyl. I did pay for leather and I know the seats are, it's the doors that have a different feel.

Most luxury cars only put leather on the part of the seat that you sit on. Usually the sides of the seat, the armrests and other parts that look like leather are vinyl. This is actually better as it wears much better.

If you have ever seen old Ferraris which have leather everywhere including the dashboard, the whole interior starts to look all stretched out and wrinkled after a few years.

Back in the 1990s, BMW used to offer an "extended leather" option on many of their vehicles which gave leather on the dashboard as well as other areas. They stopped that for a reason. Vinyl lasts much longer and looks just as nice.

To this day you can get 'extended' leather on many BMW motors... just not the X1, X3, 1,2,3,4 series. Th option is called 'nappa leather dashboard (1k)' extended ___ leather (2-4k)' or 'full _____ leather' (3-5k) they just dont offer it on the 'ünder-klasse' cars because it no one would select it... although a X1 with full merino leather would be cool, just not worth 10% of the cars price

At a BMWCCA event the other night and saw the 328 GT and it's doors were soft leather, my wife ordered an 2013 X3 and it's doors are leather. I don't know, is it a 2014 thing or only on the X1?
