Yes; you can turn off Auto Start/Stop (or ASS)

I noticed while driving a loaner F30; the ASS wouldn't activate. I was under the (ass)umption that it was always active unless you manually turn it off.

Notes from the Manual:

The engine is not switched off automatically in
the following situations:

▷ External temperatures below approx.
37 ℉/+3 ℃.
▷ High external temperature and operation of
the automatic climate control.
▷ The interior is not yet heated or cooled as
much as desired.
▷ The engine is not yet at operating temperature.
▷ Sharp steering angle or the steering wheel
is being turned.
▷ After driving in reverse.
▷ Fogging of the windows when the automatic
climate control is switched on.
▷ Vehicle battery charge is very low.
▷ Hood is unlocked.
▷ HDC is activated.
▷ Stop-and-go traffic.
▷ The selector lever is in position N or S/M.

What is DPF?

My wife doesn't drive the X1 often and no heated seats needed in Florida but we were in Germany winter 2013/14 (with heated seats) and didn't have battery issues.

The ASS issue I have is that I want it to be "OFF" as the default but, even with a recode from the dealer last service, the default remains to be "ON".

It is a Diesel Particul Filter, if you are in the States you do not have to worry about this as no X1 are sold with Diesel engine here.

Interesting, reading this old thread, about people's misconception of the Start/Stop "feature". It's only reason is meeting CAFE numbers. The rest is just marketing. It certainly doesn't save the planet.

Any manufacturer, any car, any brand, short trips are generally not good for a car. There is no way around this. You must drive the car for longer periods occasionally. There is no way to "design" a car for that scenario.

BMW x1 start/stop

Just had car serviced bought a new battery (Napa AGM)from National Tyre Services and start/stop functioning not working.
Ran for for 20 mins, not that cold outside, air conditioning switched off and all, other aspects are good so should work but isn’t. Any ideas please?

I didn't read this entire thread but I will say this: modern vehicles don't do well when only driven for very short trips. With all the electronics these days most vehicles will have difficulty keeping their battery charged unless driven longer distances. This not a 'defect' in BMWs, or any other vehicle, just the way it is now. My suggestion for the OP is to drive his vehicle more often and for longer distances. Manufacturers have talked for years about cars eventually having 2 batteries, maybe that will one day happen..
