Noisy transfer box

Hi all,

Does anyone else have this issue? It is also very harsh at low speed when slowing down . Guy from the dealership tried to say its because I have new tyres on the rear and the ones on the front have done 5000 miles

We have different X1s but I have this problem too. I have the 8 speed auto + 2.0T engine.

I have a friend with a same year and same option X1 and we compared ... mine is definitely much rougher and makes some bad sounds when in gears 1 and 2.

Service dept. no help at all.

We do not have noise but at low speeds the downshift is certainly noticeable. That is when I let my foot off the accelerator without braking and the the vehicle coast one can feel the down shift from 3rd to 2nd at probably around 25 mph.

Funny you mention it. I replaced two tires at about 8k miles and it did get noisy. I just replaced all four and it's quiet as can be again. Apparently it's very sensitive to uniform tires, more so than the quattro Audii I've had.

It's the tires. I had this problem on my X3 and we chased the issue for a year before we determined that the front and rear tires were a little bit different diameter causing the noise in the transfer case.
