A wire wheel on the hats will be good to remove rust. Don't use it on the braking surface though.

I think we need more info.
Are you talking about on the rotor hats? If so, pull them off, wire-wheel them clean (as mentioned above) and paint them. Although I'd think your OE rotors would be coated. If you're talking about the rotor's braking surface...well...you can't be, because I know this isn't your first car. The braking surface will develop surface rust after a couple days of being parked. That's 100% normal. There is no "solution", as their is no problem. Drive the car and off the rust comes. All cars with iron rotors experience this if not driven daily, especially in humid/rainy climates. |

The hats are really pitted looking, and very porous. My other cars have alot more miles, and are way cleaner looking. Maybe I'll invest in zinc coated two piece rotors with aluminum hats. Any suggestions?

"Invest" in two piece rotors with aluminum hats? Why on earth would you do that? At a minimum, just paint your own hats. |

When I modded my C5Z's brakes, I bought that type, and they've held up nicely for years. And they look real cool, too.

If you buy genuine oem brake discs or pagid brake disc they are painted , seal them with high temperature exhaust paint .
Brake discs are prone to a rough treatment with hot and cold cycles . brake discs take a lot of punishment and untreated can look rubbish over a period of time , in bad weather paint surface will degrade resulting in a ugly rust surface |
