How about simple custom made exhaust? Seems it would be much cheaper to have a non-BMW exhaust made by local shop than purchase one from the dealer.

I will 100% answer the question, but not for a month. I was going to do it on my first X1 but I had to get it replaced due to electrical issues with the O2 sensor. So irritated I missed the summer driving season.

My new X1 will be here in the end of July and it will have the Performance Exhaust installed day one.

So the Berk Street axle back I have does NOT fit.....it is pretty close though. An inch or two of pipe here in fwo placss and I think it'd be good to go. I'll either get it modified to suit or have a complete new piece made up in the near future.

Thanks for the info...can you be a bit more specific about where it doesn't fit? Maybe a picture? The berk's bends are different than the PE so still holding out hope if it's as close as you say.

I borrowed one of your previous pictures @paradoxical3 ....... hope you don't mind.

Firstly, on the Berk Street at least, the piping interferes at the rear most mount point for the brace...the area shown in blue.
Second, it was very close to interfering with the brace at the point shown in red.
Third, maybe due to an inability to position it correctly with the brace interferences, but the flanges were about an inch or so out of line (side to side).
Lastly, the axle back unit was actually a little long overall by an inch or two.

One thing to note regarding the Berk (and the PE, if that winds up not fitting) - the piping has zero impact on the overall sound. So it should be very easy and inexpensive to just have a matching diameter pipe made and have them weld it to the muffler. Will sound identical provided diameter is the same.

Even if the PE doesn't fit, I'll just have them do that.

^ Agreed. I'm going to head over to the muffler shop, probably tomorrow, and see what we'll end up doing....but I'll likely just end up getting them to cut just before the muffler and fab up to the flange point.

Who are you going to see in Calgary? I wasn't entirely pleased with the work Unlimited did on my truck. Since I'm new to the whole not an American built car thing, could you PM me some good spots?

I'm going by what a few other local BMW guys have mentioned and paying a visit to Shawnee Muffler. A few fellas have had work done by Geoff and all have been very satisfied. Ultimately, chopping a section out of the Berk and properly routing between the two points shouldn't be too taxing for them, but if they do a decent job, I'll likely get them to fab up a mid pipe for me later.

I do know of one fantastic guy out in Langdon....but he ain't cheap and he's always busy. Some of his fab and weld work is just pure art though

Hopefully I'll know the answer to this tomorrow. I'm taking delivery of my new X1 in a few days and I put in a request with the sales manager of the dealership to work with the parts department to find out. Spoke directly to the parts guys as well and they said they will call BMW NA tomorrow and ask for the dimensions. They said that it may be a case of simply extending the exhaust by a couple of inches because the 135i is shorter to align the bends, and that they would be happy to do that if the dimensions are close.

Hoping to get positive news on this tomorrow.

The dealership guys were insisting that it won't fit, and I looked closer and it appears that the bend near the muffler is different and might hit a brace. I ordered a FMIC instead and that does fit perfectly.

My next step is to do maddad midpipes. Worth a shot at least.

Are the X1 midpipes the same as the 135 in size and shape? Trying to determine if a resonator delete pipe (the Y-pipe) from a 1er will work...
