Comfort Access and seat/mirror settings

I know how to save the seat and mirror settings on my 2014 X1 using the M button and either the 1 or 2 button on the seats. How do I save the settings to my key fob so that when I unlock the car it will reset automatically?

Um, it does this for me automatically - I didn't have to set anything.

The M 1/2 are useful for when taking the car to service / car wash or other situations where someone will drive it for you, so you get it back the way you want afterwards. Otherwise, the key will fetch your seat settings, metric/imperial settings (I use metric, SWMBO uses imperial), some of the radio/multimedia settings, and a probably a few other things too.

So with 2 keys, and 2 seat positions (M1 M2) are you implying that there are 4 savable settings for seats and mirrors?

Not quite. The settings linked to each key is volatile - if you hit either 1 or 2, you immediately overwrite what was stored for the key.

In practice, I believe you can have three seat settings:

A: Primary key, no button
B: Spare key, button 1
C: Spare key, button 2

Drivers B and C would always have to push the button unless they were the last one driving. And mechanics, valet parkers, and any other extra drivers beyond the first three would have to always be given the spare key.
And B and C would still share non-seat settings linked to the key.

I believe you have to insert the key into the ignition. Then using the idrive make all your settings.

That's definitely not needed with the Comfort Access system. In fact, the manual warns you that the key should not be inserted except in special situations when having Comfort Access.

Just make sure that "Settings" -> "Door Locks" -> "Last Seat Position" is checked (it should be by default), and it will always reset the seat and mirrors to the last used position for that key.

This is the answer, however I believe this may be unchecked by default and must be enabled.
