Just completed another hwy trip and used the on board trip computer. Hwy mileage seems to be pretty much matching that of the window sticker for the 35i AWD (25mpg) Note my average speed was also more than what they test it at for that rating. (cough)

You bastards. I upgraded to 19's and increased tire size by 0.6 inches, added a roof rack and Yakima bike racks, and i'm getting 19.7mpg highway. City is like 21mpg. Haha

Edit: on my 35i btw.

If it makes you feel any better, I put the roof rack and Yakima Loadwarrior back on my MCS and my mpg dropped down to 31mpg. Had to put them on to bring a storm door home and haven't taken 'em off yet.

Right now at 150 miles I am at 22.5 mpg and still improving. I don't use eco pro or sport during break in period. Also haven't taken any long trips yet, most trips are 4 to 12 miles with mixed highway/city driving. I think the second tank will be a better indicator, I hoped I could get 28 mpg at some point but it appears unlikely at this time.

Wow, more e368 expatriates than I initially thought. The Bay Area has had a rich tradition of 'dorkfest' coupe gatherings over the years.

I would've kept mine if I didn't need the space and dirt road-snow day ability.

Yup...several here, been around so long I remember the old RoadFly forums. My MC is spending the winter tucked away in the back of the garage.

Mileage report for my 2nd tank:

I used trip computer for my recent trip from the Bay Area to south Lake Tahoe and back:
Distance: 424 miles
Average consumption: 27.0 mpg
Speed: 57.7 mph

I did not encounter traffic (left really early), had short stints in Oakland and SLT around casinos. The car had medium load (2 people and some ski gear inside the car)

For those who are not familiar with this trip involves driving from ocean elevation to about 7500 ft and descnding to about 6250 ft. It's mostly freeway except the last 40 miles on US 50 which is a 2 lane winding highway. I drove at indicated 80 mph on the freeway section.

Even though it didn't exceed 4000 rpm for break in, I enjoyed engine performance on high altitude, better than my E90 with N52. In the last half hour of the trip (after 7 hours of driving, 6 hrs of skiing and 1 hr playing jackpot) I was feeling the bumps and potholes on terrible Bay Area freeways, otherwise the car was very comfortable. One issue that I encountered, if you driving fast, non HID headlights are inadequate in pitch dark winding roads. They are either aimed low or the OEM bulbs are not good. I will try to replace the bulbs and see if it makes a difference.

My overall average with 2 tanks now stands at 25 mpg.

X-1 milage

At 14,000 miles, pretty steady at 27.3mpg using 89 octane. Like most I was very concerned in the beginning, but it took three trips of 2,000 miles each to get the average number up and stable.

Wow....I forgot all about RoadFly...haven't heard that name in a long time. No E36/38 for me, but E86 MC and a X1 (N55) on the way. Giving up my '11 MCS for it which I have mixed feelings on but, in damp or snowy conditions, I do like traction from a stop and the ability to confidently stop....especially from a winter mule!

I'd like to have your oil temp gauge...

Mazda', a buddy and I went West some years ago, and had a long conversation about turbo'd engines/ high altitude being a good combo. We don't have anything here in the East to make it an issue.
I've got 1K+ on mine, and the numbers seem to be getting a bit better.
I've gone to the Silverstars in other vehicles w/o Xenons or E-Codes, and they do help; you may need to experiment with the elevation adjustment as well. I'm sure a retrofit with OEM Xenons would get mighty pricey. Good lights do make a difference on country roads.

yes, I am surprised how long it takes for the engine oil to reach higher temps than the coolant.

I think it is a better indicator for turbo engines

I am in my third tank of gas, the overall average is still 25 mpg. According to the trip computer the last tank by itself was about 26 mpg with average speed of 43 mph (75% highway, 25% city).

while it's slightly off topic...I'll continue with my rant...
n20- AT LEAST use a coolant gauge in place of vacuum fuel comsumption distraction. I had a (briefly) Mazda2 commuter-pod and even it had a blue light that would come on when coolant was cold and go out when temp's warmed up. Why can't BMV ??
