Removing headlight switch module

My euro headlight switch will be here today, only took 3 months to arrive from Germany. I have the print out for removing the light switch surround and was wondering if it is difficult or easy to remove the surround. I do have the removal tools which should make it easier. I thought that many members have done this conversion and just am looking for your guidance.

What does the conversion do??
Too many choices between US, Canada, and Europe... Remember when a light switch just turned your lights on and off?

It allows the front fog lights to be on without the headlights being on and enables the rear fog lights.

How much did you pay for the light switch? And where did you order it from? I was considering that for my car but mostly for the rear fog light switch. It's either that or cannibalize the existing switch which I'm not sure I would want to do without a backup.

BTW, do you have the adaptive lights that turn on the fog lights when you turn the steering wheel or turn on the turn signal? Would be curious whether the new module modifies that behavior in any way...

Same here would like to know where you ordered and how much? Thanks! Is it the same euro switch that ESC Tuning sells? Thanks!

I ordered mine from my dealer for about the same price. You only need to pop out the left vent which you can do with you hand, and the panel on the left side of the dash. Both come out with no tools.

I haven't done it myself yet, but it's the same harness as is there already.

It was totally plug and play. Plus you get the rear fog light symbol on the dash. It also helps to have small hands.

This mod has been done by so BMW owners that a search will give you all the info you need. Hint: remove the vent and nothing else but the switch. No tools required.

How do you remove the headlamp switch on a 2013 BMW X1. I tried to pry out the vent and it broke and still could not access the switch. Any idea?

Have a look at the pictures of the switch assembly available online. There are two tabs top and bottom that hold it in place. Release the tabs and it comes out easily.
You can access the switch by removing the panel on the side of the dash near the door.

You do not even have to buy a new switch. You can pull the old switch, cut a small piece of plastic on the “dummy” switch and voila fully functional switch. It is just missing the emblem on it.

Now that I am thinking about it, hopefully you just mean you’re getting the switch button cover.

I did this years ago. It's a simple mod and instrctions are easily available. AFAIK no separate switch cover available... you just know it's there
