Fact or Fiction: X1 Overboost from the factory?

Saw this on a couple magazine reviews and I'm wondering if US models have this feature, and if it really only applies to the AWD versions:

Quote:
An interesting technical change when adding xDrive AWD to the X1 28i model is an overboost engine function that bumps torque by about 109 pound-feet for brief periods of time.

The AWD xDrive 28i’s identical engine offers an immense 369 pound-feet of torque during hard launches, allowing the heavier model to match the rear-drive X1’s sprint performance. While not offered on the options list of the rear-drive cars, the engine’s tuning potential is an exciting piece of news for owners (to up the power via an ECU chip after the warranty expires).

Here is a BMW official press release that mentions the overboost rating too (see tech specs and horsepower/torque numbers).

I notice this document is for the Canadian market. Does that mean US models didn't have this feature enabled?

[EDIT: I just went to BMW USA and BMW Canada's website and the technical specs for the xDrive 28i make no mention of the overboost ratings, the US site lists 240 hp and 260 lb-ft, and the Canada site lists 241 and 258, at least for the 2015 models. If you check bmw.com, it actually does show an overboost rating in the tech specs for the Z4 and 1M!]

UPDATE: I submitted an inquiry on BMW's website after I started this thread, and a BMW Genius was assigned to my case. They spent several weeks researching my question about the overboost feature (different departments were just as confused as we were), until finally their North American specialist weighed in with this information:
  1. The overboost feature is real, and present in the Canadian models as described.
  2. The overboost feature is NOT available in U.S. models, and they don't know if it will ever be offered in the U.S. market.
  3. The overboost feature may exist in other markets outside of North America too, but the BMW Genius North American specialist did not have access to that information.

The BMW Genius did not seem to know if the overboost feature required hardware or software changes (or both), so I don't know if it's something we can simply (or safely) "unlock" on our US models. I also don't know if BMW beefed up the components of Canadian models for overboost (better half-shafts, transmission, etc.) to accommodate the additional power. A quick comparison of parts diagrams or phone call to a BMW tuner in both US and Canadian markets might be able to confirm or deny if there are any programming differences between X1s in these markets.

I asked if there was any possibility that the overboost information was simply inaccurate or incorrect, and they said no, it's correct and not a typographical error or mistake.

thanks for your research.

Is this a new for 2014 thing? Perhaps somebody could run a comparison of a Canadian vs US VIN. It doesn't really make sense to me that this would be a Canada only feature.. Canada's typically a much smaller market.

This makes sense to me. When I installed aFe's scorcher tuner, I noticed no difference in torque, minimal increase in horsepower. Probably because that "tuner" is mild in comparison to the likes of JB4.

What boggles me, it's in Canadian cars but not US spec? Kinda seems weird unless it has something to do with Cali N26 engine emissions.

Basically the turbo is allowed to produce a higher pressure for a short period.. More air plus more fuel results in greater torque from the engine.
