Void CPO for a tune?

I recently purchased a CPO 2014 X1 xdrive35i sport line and while I love the car, I am itching to tune and add some aftermarket performance stuff. The problem is I really don’t want to void the CPO, and it is my understanding that tuning the car could result in just that. The mods that I have in mind, in order of priority, are:

1. Chargepipe (duh)
2. JB4 or MHD flash tune. ( I understand that MHD requires a DME bench flash, is this correct?)
3. BMS intake
4. VSRF FMIC
5. Bilstein HD6 and H&R sport springs (will likely come much later because expensive)

I guess what I’m wondering if it is worth modifying the car and voiding the CPO warranty. The warranty doesn’t expire until July 2019, and I reaaallllyyy don’t want to wait that long to start making changes. Thoughts?

This is dealership by dealership. My dealership continued to work on my car when I had a JB4, Chargepipe, Intercooler, Methanol Injection, Downpipe, Turbo Inlet, and a Pure stage 2. All of the things I brought it in for though were not part of the drivetrain or computers. It is possible that they would have denied repair had I broken something due to the mods.

One of three things will happen...

1. They wont care at all and will act like nothing has changed.
2. They will not repair parts that have been affected by your mods.
3. They will say you voided your warranty and not honor any repair work.

They are not allowed to do the 3rd option but may try.

***EDIT***
I modded my 335i the first week I had the car. It had 6 months of the factory warranty left before the 2 year CPO.

FWIW, I didn't mod our car until the warranty is over. It's probably OK but I didn't feel like dicking around with BMW Canada should something comes up.

^--- What Turbod said. My service manager said they didn't care about a charge pipe and didn't really care about the JB4 either. Once you get into the downpipe and other mods, he said they'll have more issues. Even "being okay" with mods doesn't mean they won't try to deny a warranty claim if they feel the problem is due to said mod.

Thanks for the replies. It's mainly the tune I am worried about. If for some crazy reason my transmission or engine have issues they would be able to easily deny the claim based on the presence of JB4 or flash tune.... then again, I have never heard of either of those two having issues on the 35i lol.

I'm fairly certain my shop will still perform work on the car... But I'm more worried about something silly breaking unrelated to the drivetrain, and then they try and not honor the CPO because I tuned etc....

While perhaps too semantic...your warranty technically cannot be voided for modifications.

If they can at least theoretically trace a failure to a modification (or added stress caused by said modification), they can deny claims on a component by component basis, but cannot void your warranty.

But as it's been said, many dealers are somewhat mod-friendly...and the big-ticket items on these cars are very strong.

CPO here until 2019, modded since the day I brought it home...

If you're not morally against it, you can always pull the JB4 off before taking it in if you have an engine/trans issue.

If the issue problem is unrelated to the mod in any way shape or form I agree with this. If say you bent a rod from too much power though it's crossing the line IMO.

I'm in the same camp. But I might go a step further. If a guy had a simple tune, and his water pump went (which is common)...I wouldn't have a real issue with him pulling it off before it went in (even if he could have likely had it fixed without a denial)...despite the fact that they could claim the tune put more strain on the pump.

So...perhaps I'd draw my own personal line at unrelated, or common failures on otherwise stock cars.

IF BMW warranty wants to be a dick about it, they can, plain and simple deny the claim based upon any little unauthorized part, liquid, or procedure.
YMMV extremely from dealer to dealer, tech to tech.

Personally I usually walk away when people start asking questions about voiding their warranty in regards to modifications due to the general personality of the person that is worried about such things at car meets.

Not morally against it at all haha. Just wanted to avoid having to reinstall it. That is part of the other reason I wanted to go with MHD. But that DME removal looks like a pain to an amateur like me. I also liked the idea of MHD because they offer a flash that supposedly reduces the throttle lag that many complain about on this vehicle. I have tried the TBA reset mentioned on here and I don't hear that mechanical sound that people describe so I don't think it's working. I've been meaning to give it another shot...

Right. I'm not terribly worried since I won't be looking to run very aggressive maps on the JB4. Will upgrade the chargepipe obviously and will likely do a BMS intake because I think it looks cool... and probably an FMIC to keep it all running cool and happy

Don't really have any tracks anywhere close to me so that's not an option... Just want to do a bit of "spirited driving"

Somehow dicking around with the warranty approved over whether a mod is the cause while your car sits on the lot for days is not too appealing.
It's up to your risk tolerance. Parts are easy to find.
