daytime driving lights

Curious, this review of the X1 is shown driving without daytime driving lights.
Is it not required in the US to always have the daytime driving lights on?

They aren't. Ford products sold in the US don't have them.

Some states require driving lights at certain times, like in rain, or when driving through a road work zone.

The reduced strength daytime driving lights of some American cars would be illegal in Europe, as it would be seen as driving with park lights.

American cars generally don't have rear fog lights either, and many if not most made for the American market have red rear directional lights instead of amber.

Red rear indicators are on the F30 and B8 A4. I nearly intentionally rear ended an idiot S8 driver with his extremely bright rear fogs on during a clear night last month. I keep the DRL's off on all of my cars, they're just a silly styling statement, not a safety thing.

Daytime Running Lights are required in Canada. They are not in the US. Some automakers offer them in the US but not required.
