If purchasing from BMW, then the expanding rivets definitely need to be purchased separately.

X1 Hood Insulation

I was able,to order this from TaoBoa using an agent. Item fitted perfect and came with the installation gourmets. The only downside was working with the Taobao agent, it was timely from order to delivery, more than a month. The entire purchase including shipping was about $75.00.

I was lucky. My cousin from Hong Kong came to the State last month for a visit. He order the insulation for me at TaoBoa and brought it over.

X1 hood insulation from bimmerfox

I bought from Bimmerfox the hood insulator. It fits great. It has a lot of padding inside it. The holes all line up. The 2 tabs at the bottom I trimmed just a tiny bit. He includes the plastic rivets and they work easy. I added some Dynamat type sticky butyl rubber tape with foil insulation. Dynamat is expensive but Home Depot in the roofing dept has " U.Band Instant Waterproof Repair Tape". It looks and acts just like the expensive Dynamat. I put the foil backed sticky tape on the big blank areas on the underside of the hood between the braces. PS, if you get the sticky on your scissors, use Mineral spirits to dissolve the goo. But does all this work in reducing noise? Yes. I can lay my ear directly on hood and hear nothing through it. All the engine sounds now come out of the wheel wells now and a bit through the radiator port. But most sound is from underneath or out the wheel wells. You need to buy the one from Bimmer Fox just to see his amazing box he creates to ship this big thing to you safely. My UPS driver even commented how cool the box is. PS, it got here in 5 days.

We are not surpised that you like the hood insulator. We all love our BMW, there is no reason not to get the best for our BMW. Can you take some pictures to share what you did? And thank you for spending time and to write the review. I wish more our coustomers share their thoughts with us.

This sounds like it will be my FIRST mod, are you still selling them? Do you have pics of the new and improved mat? I'm in Staten Island and close to NJ, can we meet up to possibly save you a box and me some shipping charges?

I bought the hood insulation today from bimmerfox and his partner Kin. It really is a well made piece and for the life of me, I CANNOT see why BMW wouldn't make this a mandatory piece on their cars? I am planning to post some before and after pics of the mat off and in the car. Stay tuned folks!

I just ordered a hood insulation from Bimmerfox. He has sent out the insulation as soon as he received the order. It will arrive before my X1 I will post pictures and a review at that time. Bill is very responsive to his customers.

X1 Sound insulation

Dear Bill,

I got the sound insulation last week. Thank you very much for your quick reply to the order and sending it. I applied the product, attached is the 3 pictures. It is a great product and fits perfectly. Only the rivets seems like little bit loose but not making any trouble. I drove for one week and checked if the rivets are still there. Yes they were. Thanks very much for your fast and reliable service.

Any reason this should disturb BMW as regards warranty and 'heat' issues? I love my car, but quieter would be better.
