Do you have any experience with CCC?

I don't.

Wondering if it would make more sense to go to Performance Driving School?

I am interested in hearing some feedback from people that have gone this year to have an idea of what to expect. Signed up for Aug 16 for me and my wife (hopefully, didn't get a confirmation for her - and I keep forgetting to call).

I am using this to test to see if I want to go for a day in Thermal.

A day at Thermal would be nothing like anything at UDE. The free events at UDE are great and worth the price of admission . You won't find many other companies letting you flog their cars in these conditions.

While I didn't do the CCC, I can't imagine its better or even close to an HPDE or even remotely close to a day at Thermal. I'd take a day on a road course over a parking lot any day.

The BMW M CCC is incredible!

I completed my course this week in Seattle and it was MORE than worth the $750 in my opinion. Driving the new M3s, M4s, and M235is at full tilt with a pro coaching you all day in various conditions is just amazing.

If you're on the fence about this just DO IT!

Does anyone know more about the "first come first served" for the street drives? Is it show up at crack of dawn and sign up on a list, or just when you show up, you can wait around until one is available?

You sign your name or wait in line, depending on what you want to do.

May I ask to what extent it was at all personal vs group oriented? What kind of individual time do you get, exactly, if any? I get all self-conscious if I feel like other people are watching me cuz I'm a baby.

The test drives are individual, the track event has multiple people in the car, and everything else I'm not sure since I didn't get a chance to fully experience it last year since I ran late.

I went to the UDE this morning and I enjoyed it. I can say it was worth the drive from Orange County up to LA and an interesting way to spend half a day. There is a display "tent" that has some cool New and Old BMWs to look at as well as snacks (peanuts, M&M's and dried banana slices) on top of the test drive and registered driving events (i.e. Autocross). Also, a FYI they had an "executive" trailer port-a-potty type thing (with running water).

I did the autocross (328d/428i) which was fun, but fairly group oriented. You plus another two people will share a car and driving instructor and there was 2 groups per instructor (total of 6 ppl per instructor). The driving instructor will drive the track twice once to point things out and the second time as a hot lap. After that each person in the car gets to do two laps followed by another 2 laps in the car you didnt start with and then being capped off in a timed lap. You get some pointers and areas of suggestion. The course was relatively short (~30seconds per full lap). The timed lap is the only instance where you are in the car with the instructor a lone.

You experience the X5 ramp and 5 series water pad as a passenger only.

My wife and I are glad we did it and I will probably be looking more seriously at a day or two out in Thermal (without the wife). It did help me on any future car decisions though as the 328d/428i and 640i (test drive) drove were fairly uninspiring and felt lacking. My wife drives our Z4 coupe everyday and felt the same way.

I was at the UDE in Los Angeles (Santa Anita) yesterday. I did the autocross in the X4.

I was at the same event last year and therefore I had a good idea as to what to expect.

There are certainly worse ways to spend a couple hours... and it is FREE.

It was fun and it got me out of the house for a bit, but I was a bit jaded by the VIP version; last year I got to take the M3 through the autocross, all the cars were either M cars or the Alpina B7, the Hors d'oeuvres were more intricate, and there was a [tiny] dinner by a celebrity chef... The one on Sunday was non-M, simple snacks and no lunch/dinner, but it was still fun. I just wish I thought brown-nosing my car dealer this year . If some of you remember me, I was probably the only one there lugging around a Canon DSLR .

You may. It was typically 2 guys to an instructor in the car. A few times I was alone with the instructor but that was because it was the way the group numbers broke down and is something they try to avoid (having only one student and one pro in a car at a time).

Honestly, all of your self-conscious feelings will subside because everyone is there to learn and have a great time. I know it sounds cliche, but trust me, egos are not part of the equation and you will enjoy yourself and learn A LOT.

Also, I'm not sure if it has been mentioned previously, but completion of the M CCC at the UDE satisfies the pre-req for BMW M School. Thermal here I come! Furthermore, there is a discount for the M school via your BMW CCA membership. I believe it is 10 or 15 percent off.
