Parking fan

Hi folks, has anyone got the parking fans to work?

I tried but unsuccessful. What i thought was this.

You set the timer (there are 2?! I wonder what for) and it's suppose to blow cool air into the cabin.

So technically if you are going to park for 2 hours, I should think you'd set the timer for like 1.5 hours, so that it will count down from the time you leave the car and 1.5 hours later it would blow cool air into the cabin.

I tried numerous times and it doesn't work. Can someone tell me how please?

Thanks.

I have used it a few times but difficult to explain. Basically you set the start and off time (ie first time is start, second is stop). You then use the return arrow (on the non iDrive car) to set. If set correctly the fan indicator light stays on when you take out the ignition key. Oh, and it only works for 1/2 hour so not to drain the battery. It is also just a fan, ie does not use the aircon or heater.

It's a feature of the ventilation system that allows you to set the fan to come on at a pre-defined time for up to 30 min. I have used it a few times when I am at the shops to run the fan before I get back to the car. Unfortunately in the UK we do not have the auxiliary heater option but it can use a bit of residual heat of the engine to warm the car slightly.

I don't have iDrive either so Its done through the radios controls. Not well explained in the manual. I think though that you need to have the auto climate control option but could be mistaken.

It is only for ventilation. Not any heating or cooling, it just blows fresh air, and only through the "ventilation grills" (sorry, donīt know the english word) in the dashboard.

Mine doesn't have iDrive so it's controlled using the radio controls.

Tried this.

(1) Press menu
(2) Select "parked"
(3) You will see two timers
(4) It has four options; reset, recall, hrs, mins
(5) here's what I did please cue me in if I did it wrong - press 1 hr and 30 mins if you expect to come back to the car in 2 hrs time
(6) press the return button
(7) stop your engine and remove your key
(8) you should see a fan logo on your aircon even after you removed your key
(9) then it should start it's countdown to 1 HR and 30 mins

Tried that. Return to, still, a warm car?

Yeah, it just blows air. Not cool air. So perhaps that's why I don't noticed any difference.

There is a half page or so in the separate manual I got to explain the radios controls. As you say nothing in the OM itself.

On a side note I have BMW UK investigating the fitting of a Webasto Parking Heater to a X1. The one I am looking at heats the interior as well as the engine block using a small furnace fitted in the engine bay. Runs on diesel/petrol out of the tank.
