'Wanderitis' on the highway
Our Westsylvania roads are crowned and to some degree stud-grooved, but all the same, my X1 seems to require a lot of correcting to maintain a straight line on the interstate.
I cannot complain about handling otherwise, but it just seems a little twitchy at highway speed. Thoughts? Moon |

I never felt any issues with my X1's steering until I did the wheel alignment. Even the wheel alignment guys did the test drive on my 4th visit accusing me of being too picky. After driving couple kilometers on normal roads (not hwy) he said it's fine. I get a mixed feeling as well. So, trying not to think about it too much while driving coz it's bit distracting as well. But once it gives you that sort of feeling trying not to think about it is not gonna help much. Anyways, just living with it atm

It is the road ruts. I have experienced similar on various roads. Feels like bob sled. What happens if you become a left lane loafer??

Left lane loafer? Me? Perish the thot!
We may all be experiencing the same thing. The car will change direction with the slightest touch of the wheel, and hammering corners is no issue at all. It even felt fine at 125 in the rain...... But when noodling along, it just seems to take a little more managing than necessary. Moon |

My car's high speed stability improved when I lowered the rear tire pressure by 3 psi from the factory sticker. 41psi was way to hard and twitchy....

Try a Sonata!! It wanders like a lost wombat! As in, you nudge it left and rather than twitchy it just keeps going left! So you nudge right to correct annnnnnnnd she just keeps going right.

My car with my summer wheel set up is horrendous for road wandering. The 265s out back pull the car every which way except straight. It's worse in the rain too, The front wheels just don't seem to be doing much other than keeping the bumper off the ground.
With my stock square set up, I don't notice any wandering at all.

I am guessing it's a combination of road surface, tires, and alignment. When I have my track setup on with 275's in the front it tramlines bad on the highway. When I am on smoother roads with my winter setup on I can take hands off the wheel and it won't move.

Your have the data to tell you whats happening. The stock front track of the X1 is one inch shorter than the back. When you run the 8.5 and 10 inch wide staggered for summer you are most likely running an extra 1.5 inch track in the back for a 2.5 inch difference. That's why my 8 and 9 inch wide stock staggered is 2 inch difference, and wanders like a bitch. So, I put 12mm BMS spacers on front only, and reduced my stagger back to stock, and wander went away. Steering also firmed up so I don't turn in too early. Wear if any is insignificant. Rears are still gonna wear out first. I think I'll start running 32-35 front , and 35-38 rear. |

I have to agree with the original comment. I didn't really notice it at first but after a while I did realise that the car seemed to 'tram-track' sometimes and particularly at lower speeds. I've just optimistically put it down to a sporty drive, feeling 'connected with the road' and the general poor state of English roads!

Car was back to wandering by the end of the day. But I heard negativity of heavy steering before buying the car, heavy steering is okay, just not wandering at a small bit of camber in the road. There needs to be something to solve this surely and not just wheel sizes and tyre pressures, I know they have an effect but I can let go of my wheel and on some road it will pull me to the left. |

The OEM tires are pretty well gone a bit past 20k miles; I've noticed that the winter tires (Blizzaks) don't have nearly the lateral grip as the all seasons, but don't seem to wander as much as the all seasons.
Are alignments covered in the complimentary warranty? Moon |

We have just had our X1 a month now, so we decided to take it with us this week down south for a 500 miles round trip.
At motorway speeds (70mph...ish) the car is very twitchy and you need to be aware, however on the windy roads it feels more direct. I lowered the pressure by 3psi and it certainly helped the handling on the motorway. I am going to change the tyres on the front, the dealer in Scotland supplied the car with the tyres it came with, which are cheap budget tyres...so these will get changed anyway to see if that improves it again. I thought it was me, I drive a 2017 G30 5 series M Sport, so its a different beast on the road. However, I seem to remember my E90 was a bit like this on the motorway, but cant remember it being as twitchy
