Which OEM tires did you get on 18in wheels?

I noticed my sport line xDrive28i came with Continental ContiProContact SSR tires. I thought all cars come with Pirelli Cinturato P7s. Is this a recent change?

The Conties are rated 400 AA A. Pirellies are 500 A A. They are also low rolling resistance but Conties are not. My understanding is that Conties are a higher performance tire but Pirellies are more efficient and have longer tread life. Looking at the tread pattern I also think Conties should be better in snow. Both tires have good reviews on Tirerack.

Any opinions on which one is a better tire and how long I should expect them to last?

Thanks,

MazdaFan

My 2011 X1 came with Goodyear EfficientGrips which lasted 50,000 kms. I replaced them with the Pirelli Cinturato P7s.

I think the Pirellis are better in terms of ride, quietness and wet weather performance. The Goodyears were marginally better for dry road cornering.

Continentals.

Which, surprisingly, were pretty damn nice.

Is it reasonable to expect Conties to last for 45k miles? I am asking this because the safelease insurance supposed to cover tire wear but they need to last 45k to take advantage of this.

Noooo way.

You'd be lucky to get 30K miles off the Continentals.

Or any other tire for cars for that matter.

Well, I got about 23k from rear Bridgestone Potenzas summers on my E90 RWD with staggered setup. The tread wear rating on that tire was 140. I could probably drive them for another few thousand miles if I had to. The fronts had about 5.5/32" left at that mileage.

I had about 40k on Kumho Ecsta 4x (all-season with 400 rating) when I traded my E90 in. I could easily go another 5k on those without hitting the tread bars.

The Conties have 40k miles thread warranty and wear rating of 400, so it is possible that they can last for 45k. They could be below wear bars at 45k though.

June 2013 Build - Pirelli Cinturato P7.

Also, FYI...I'm very happy with them so far! Seem to grip well in dry (haven't had any measurable rain yet), are VERY quiet, and quite smooth.

Goodyear EfficientGrips on my 35i staggered wheels, some of the worst tires ever and I found quite terrible in hard cornering. Just not enough grip and I've wondered how far the sidewall was collapsing during cornering. I put some Dunlop 4D tires for winter and it was like a whole new car. I have better cornering in wet and 0 degree dry roads than I ever had with the Goodyear EfficientGrips in any temperature.

How is it possible to have two cars with same EPA rating, one with low rolling resistance tires and one without? I though there should be at least 1 mpg difference.

Goodyear efficientgrip.
Think they should last another 10.000 km (now about 30.000-32.000 on them). Used them pretty agressive, doing (short) burnouts and drifts when it's wet.
