Visiting Seattle

Hey guys, visiting seattle in december, looking forward to it (first time on west coast)

I would like some input on some stuff to do, i'm definitely catching a hawks game (against philly on the 3rd) but i'd also like to do some out doorsy stuff. I know it will be blistering cold etc, but i dont mind.

Anyway, i'd like to stay near the stadium if possible, recommendations on hotels, places to eat would be great!

thanks guys!

Oh man December, it's very likely there will be endless drizzle and overcast skies.

Downtown is pretty small and everything is very close together. Staying anywhere there puts you at a ~15 min walk to the CLink. There aren't any hotels in the immediate vicinity of the stadium since it was built toward the southern end of the city which is mostly industrial.

Definitely check out Pike's Place and the shopping district downtown. Space Needle only if it's clear out, otherwise it's a waste of money.

As far as the outdoors go, again it's very weather-dependent. There's a ferry that goes around Lake Union. Good hiking is about 40 mins east toward North Bend and Snoqualmie (the Snoqualmie falls are worth checking out). There is decent skiing too at the Snoqualmie Pass.

Be nice to Hawks fans, most are bandwagons who didn't follow football until recently. But the game day experience at the CLink is really good compared to other stadiums. The people are definitely more civil and the stadium is designed for noise. You gotta be standing up on every play if you wanna see the field which makes it fun. I went to a Lions game recently and the fans were pathetic in comparison.

I've got to make a pitch for Lemay's auto museum just ~30 min south in Tacoma. This place is a must see for any automotive enthusiast. The facility is relatively new and their collection is huge and amazing. Please do yourself a favor and visit it.

Is nightlife of any importance to you?

Do you ski? If so there is great Skiing at Stevens (closer) and Baker (better) within a morning ride of the city. If you have time to get out to the Olympic Peninsula and see the Rain Forrest, it is unbelievable, especially if you haven't been in any of the big woods on the west coast. I'm not sure about December weather out there, I did the trip in more temperate times. It is very desolate, I drove the whole loop alone and creeped myself out pretty well. Downtown is really pleasant. Check out REI's store, it's worth killing an hour there. We also made the drive to Mt St Helens. Its a long day trip, but if it is something you're into it is pretty interesting.

Go Eagles!!

I would love to ski as I'm sure my cousins would as well. Going to look up at the Olympic Peninsula now. I can't wait to see some mountains etc. Much needed scenery change from South fla.

I'd have to agree, which is why I head up there at least 3-4 times/year.

Hotels are in the immediate downtown, some closer to the water than others.

As far as nightlife goes, I went mostly where other college students went which were the Capitol Hill and Ballard neighborhoods. But the classier bars where more young professionals go are toward downtown. I highly recommend Frolik, it's a really nice rooftop bar.

Also, on a side note, Starbucks recently opened a huge flagship location on Pike St just on the other side of I-5. It's called their "Roastery and Tasting Room." Really neat place and worth a visit. Plus one of the best pizza spots in town (Serious Pie) is inside there.

There is a Silver Cloud right next to the Clink/Safeco Field. But it becomes a party and sometimes hard to get rooms on game days.

Lol yeah rent a car.

Street parking sucks but you can find some. It will cost you to park unless it's a Sunday. You will be parking in a garage or street parking in the city. Outside Of down town is not that bad for parking and you usually don't have to pay.

You can always try going to Mt. Rainier but it might be closed off. If not, Rattlesnake is a good one to go on http://www.wta.org/go-hiking/hikes/rattle-snake-ledge
