Valve clatter at low revs?

Thought I heard a little valve clatter or pinging at low revs under load this evening; it is relatively cold outside (20*) tho' the engine was fully warmed up.
I've seen some other 'Diesel' references here; is a little clatter normal?
Thnx,
Moon

More than likely it's just the high pressure fuel pump.

Drive mode ? I notice the engine RPM is very low, 1200-1500RPM when motoring along in D, causes engine to lug & clatter a bit. (city/rural driving)
I only use D when I'm out on the interstate where its a constant higher speed.

Agreed, it's typical for DI's.

True that...I may try using 'sport' when lugging around town. OTOH, if it is causing no real damage (tho' the damned car is so smooth the rest of the time...), I may just ignore it.

Yeah, I know, but it seems to be bad form to bend a valve stem....
