Will they fit - 7 Series Wheels?

Local deal on some ASA GT1's that were on a 2013 7 series. 19x8.5 in all four corners with ET35 offset. Plan to equip them with some 225/40R19 rubber.

I don't know very much about the ASA brand but there seem to be quite a few 3 series on Google Images rocking them and they look pretty sweet.

I looked up the 7 series wheel specs and compared them to our X1 and everything is the same except for the lug size. M14 on the 7 vs M12 on our cars.

Will I be ok to pull the trigger?

I had the same lug size difference on my set of wheels (off of a 5 series). Only had them on for a couple months but didn't have any issues. The wheel sits on the hub (which should be same but double check) and on the rim of the lug nut. Since it doesn't sit on the actual thread I don't think the 2mm difference in thread size should matter.

I would check the weight of the wheels vs. the OEM X1 19" first.

While the wheel doesn't sit on the studs, they are still what's reacting the loads from the car. The 2mm difference in thread size results in ~ 27% reduction in the stud cross section area under loads from acceleration/deceleration/turning. It's most likely that BMW used larger studs to react the V12 7 Series' 553 ftlbs of torque and the + 5,000 curb weight or whatever the max torque and weight were for the 5 series. However, heavier wheels exert larger forces on the studs, throw in a few thousand cycles of acceleration, braking, and turning and you get cracks.

Not saying this will happen, just thinking why BMW would use two different size studs and how it affects what you're doing.

That's a fantastic explanation Aerospike. I actually went with the original wheels because I found them to be a little lighter (so better fuel economy) and they looked better. I didn't compare the exact weights, just by how they felt.

Actually weight of the tire was a strong consideration for getting rid of my RFT's as well

Yep, I hate RFT's. I'm replacing mine on Friday.

Seems like weight should not be an issue. The stock 19" X1 rear wheels are showing at 13.72kg which is 30.24 lbs. Now add in the weight of a run flat tire on top of that.

The aftermarket wheels I am purchasing are 28 lbs plus non-run flats.

I think I should be ok but I totally agree that they put a bigger stud to carry the heavier weight of the vehicle and hold up under the extra TQ and/or HP.

So... I've been duped. Rather odd situation. Let me know your honest opinion.

Guy told me they were from a 2013 7 series. I picked them up, was very satisfied. Got home and noticed that there was a small dangling tag hanging from one of the spokes. It read "2010 BMW B7 Alpina." That set me off because it wasn't year 2013 as he told me. I looked up the Alpina and found that it has a slightly more aggressive offset than a standard 7 series.

This prompted me to measure the offset. Damnit. It wasn't ET35 as I was told. It was ET15. Square setup. 19x8.5 with a 15mm offset. So. What do I do now? I'm guessing that's way too aggressive for our cars, especially since I plan to lower it on H&R's/Billsteins this Summer.

Do I just relist them on Craigslist or ebay or do I try to give them a shot. The problem is that there are no tires on the rims, so I can't even throw them on to check fitment with the car sitting on the ground.

ET15 is very aggressive. They will stick out a lot, too much for my liking.
I would say try to jack up the car and throw just the rims on to see how far they stick out.

Agree to just try it. I'm not sure how safe this would be, but I would try to place something underneath the rims so i could actually lower the car - not tires, but maybe some very thick heavy rubber or similar.

Yeah, I don't know guys. I played around with an offset calculator. I think maybe it's a bit too aggressive for my own personal taste. There will be an added 6.3mm of strut clearance, which is great, but the face of the rims will poke outwards 1.25" (31.7mm) further than my stock 17's.

I mean, that's probably too far, right?

Hmmm, the X1 has some pretty large wheel wells. You could take the car and one wheel down to your tire shop and see if they will do a test fit.

I have done that several times with the help of my tire shop. They know you are buying tires from them and most guys down there are car guys anyways.

Worth a shot!
