17" tires - to RF or not to RF?

Looking for advice on tire selection vs. ride quality on the 2014 17" wheels. I've had my X1 xDrive28i for almost a year, love the overall sporty feel but the tight ride did take some getting used to (prior ride was a '00 Passat wagon 1.8T, a wheezy marshmallow by comparison).
The original set of 225/50R17 Eagle LS2 runflats were on when I got it, looked like lots of tread left but somehow I've managed to take them down to replacement depth in 9 months -
Assuming I can control myself to back off in the turns a little, I really should stick with performance all-seasons - winter is on the horizon. I'm considering a new set of Conti Purecontact go-flats for better treadwear and to take the edge off the ride stiffness, but will I really see much difference when I've got 17's to begin with?
- thanks for any advice -

Dave

Yes, RFT suck, even more so in the winter no matter the diameter.

After I posted, I found the "Best non-RFT" post by Tracus... VERY GOOD info in there, likely going to try the Conti DWS06 and get the E84 mini-spare from bimmerzone with the money I saved by not buying RFT!

I just put a set of Conti purecontact 98V non-rf (as in two days ago). I like them so far.

What was your previous set and how has the ride and handling changed (if at all)?
