Which would even further the point.

But, it's only fair to compare the models sold at the dealer at the time of purchase. For the majority of X1 buyers, the 3 series wagon on the showroom floor was an F-series.

It's just semantics, but the X1 is NOT much bigger than an E series 3 wagon. It's the closest thing to a 335 wagon there is. Which is why many of us love it.

Just picked up our X1 from a service today. Manager came out and commented that the car received more comments/interest in the past few days than any other one they had in. Neat little thing for sure.

Agreed. The x1 in 35i made that decision pretty easy for me too! Finding one though, proved to be difficult.

Someday, I'll find a blue one, with coral red interior, and I'll sell my soul to the devil to buy it.

Now i own/ed both cars and the difference between the 9-3 and E84 X1 is far, far, far larger than 29 vs 25 cubic feet would indicate on paper.

There is absolutely no comparing them, i don't care what the numbers say, the saab swallows our stroller and it's own wheels and tyres and the X1 couldn't carry three of it's own (same sized) wheels.
X1 at 177" length and 9-3 at 183" length is a big difference. Even 0.5 cuft of storage is a deal breaker if its the difference between fitting something you need daily versus not.

Also, wasn't the 9-3 FWD based? The design of the rear suspension matters too in terms of how much the shock towers cut into the cargo area

By the way, I personally think the best wagon out there at the moment is the Subaru Outback 3.6R.
