Thanks Senwar, that explains why mine went from 20k miles straight to 19k miles. Actual milage however was only about 600 miles.

Thanks. How many km have you done that started triggering the "countdown"?
BTW what km was your initial figure? Mine is 12,000km.

Did you mean 30,000km was the initial setting with your new X1? Mine was set on 12,000km when I got my new X1. I wonder why they set at 12,000km in Hong Kong that was too less comparing with yours. Perhaps they want us to come back for service more frequent!

Mine is diesel so maybe that could accout for the difference I know my last Golf was every 15,000km. I'd give you dealer a ring to see what they say.

Mine is also a diesel but it originally said that the next (first) service is due in 20k miles! (or 1 year) Thats 32 000km before the first service! Cannot see that thats right?

Btw I have a 5 year service plan.

Have the service plan my self Checked the service indicator today and it's now after dropping to 28,000km so due in 13,000km (with 15,000 currently on the clock) or 12/2011

OK, feel a wee bit better, so 32000 km is not beyond the realms of possibility.

Hey maybe it 32k km if you are on their account (ie service plan)

and
12k km if you are on your own account .....makes sense

Joking aside I have no idea how this works.

A lot of cars have moved to longlife (VAG) service so 30,000km/2yrs are becoming the norm and max. In the case of the X1 it is programmed for condition based servicing so it can shorten the period between services depending on how the car is being driven.

I've just recently had my 15,000 km service after only 4 months and was very surprised that the oil and oil filter was not changed.

Has anyone else had a similar experience?

My previous two BMW's have been 18k miles or 2 years. In the case of the earlier one of the two (a Z4MC), it's first service (well second if I count the standard 1200 mile M service) came at the 2yr interval as I'd only done 12,000 miles
