So we had people saying the show was getting predictable and stale. That they were afraid to kill of big characters. Now they have an episode like last night and now the show has gone too far. It was too graphic. Come on people...really?

It felt like last night was a huge turning point. Almost like it was the last episode of the original Walking Dead and the start of an all new series.

Some actor on TV said TWD is just a soap opera now. I agree. The writing is pretty uninspiring, the plot is really thin, but you just have to watch it because you've been watching it forever. The only suspense in the show is who is going to die. Otherwise there is no real story. The Negan character is pretty boring. I think Glen and Abraham are lucky to get off the show at this point. It made their careers and now they can move on to better projects with more life in them.

With all that said, I'll be ready to watch next week :P

All I can say is props to the creators of the show and the actors that made this episode come to life. This was without a doubt one of, if not THE best TWD episode to date, and it will be hard to top.

With that said, I feel that this episode was difficult to watch. I'm not one of those get attached to the character kind of fans that cry for a week when someone gets killed off. Glenn and Abraham were killed and are off the show, boohoo. I am already over it. It was the brutality of the death scenes and the way they were carried out that was difficult to stomach for me. I've watched dozens of real life Mexican cartel beheading videos that literally turn my stomach and this episode was right on par with them, if not more difficult to watch. Hell, in my previous line of work I've seen and smelled dead bodies that were out cooking in the Arizona sun for a week, and that's something you never forget as long as you live. I feel pretty disconnected from the reality of death, but the acting and writing in this episode was just that good that it almost put me over the edge. Especially the arm cutting scene with Carl. The despair in Rick's eyes at that point showed that Neegan finally broke him, which was the whole point of this entire episode. Having two young children of my own, it's difficult to watch something like that and not put yourself in their shoes and think about what you would do if that was your own child that you were being forced to cut the arm off of. I couldn't imagine doing something like that, but in Rick's situation, he had no choice, and it was at that point that he was defeated mentally and physically and conceded to Neegan. Andrew Lincoln did a great job because you could really see it in his eyes.

To those that say they went too far, it was over the top, etc., all I can say is that it had to be for two reasons. Number one, this was a HUGE cliffhanger, and they had to go above and beyond to deliver after making fans wait for 8 months. Deliver they did, and then some. Number two, Neegan wasn't just being sadistic to be sadistic. He had one very clear message for Rick and his group.."you work for me now. I own you and everything that you have". He wanted to make damn sure Rick and everyone else understood that message, and he drove it home. What Neegan did was absolutely necessary for those reasons.

That's all from me. Can't wait until next week but I have a feeling that it will be slow for a couple of episodes.

Not sure I'm with you on all the acting, but Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Andrew Lincoln were outstanding. My issue with the violence is that actually undermined the dramatic impact and reduced the power of Nagan's violence.

You need to watch the Talking Dead. Lauren Cohan is so fucking hot. Spank bank material. They should just have her on every week. Ridiculous.

A bit dramatic with "everyone" dying flashback type sequence. I didn't feel sorry for Abraham dying. He wanted to die before. At least he took it look a champ. But Glenn's death was tough to watch. You saw part of his brain and he went Caucasian in one eye. Good way to start the show off for Season 7.

She is pretty hot. Was she speaking like Brit? And I think a couple of the cast members did BBC/Masterpiece theater dramas before TWD.

That was a pretty brutal reset for the series but it opens the door for many more years of TWD

Glen's death was a tough one.

I get it, but didn't like it.

Too dark and no more Glenn. I thought they wanted to include every demographic?

Watched it last night. It was okay. I wasn't mad, sad, or anything after watching it. Kind of boring IMO.

I guess I already had an inkling who it was goig to be and it was later confirmed. I also think they held out too long to show that scene. It would have had way more emotional effects if they had shown it during season finale. I just thought it was a bit lame - all violence and no good storyline.

Yeah. I feel like perhaps the show is loosing some steam. Producers and writers are getting too lazy and dragging things out.

I may agree with jpnh that you may be lacking a pulse homie!

For me the scene / whole episode was gripping as fuck. And this is coming from a person who got so bored with Walking Dead that I stopped watching after Season 3 for a year before going back and giving it another shot.

You can re-read what I said above if you'd like, but I think we've had such a vested interest in these characters for so many years, that anything less than dragging out their death in such a manner would have been unjustified. We deserve to bear the full impact of these characters dying and the people who love them watching in horror. For some that may be boring - and maybe you have just gotten to a point of disconnect with the show that you had very little patience for it from the start anyway.

But not only was I vested in what was going to happen, I was fully into the tone and pace of the episode - so it was easy for me to feel such shock and lows, because they already had me hooked.

I'm dead inside. Lol

Beth's death was more of a shock to me; Hershel's as well. When Tyrese died I was more affected. I suppose I expected Glenn to die long ago. I didn't think the death scenes were that great. It was almost too childish to me. A villain like the Governor was great because it makes you hate him. Negan is just a big bully with not much of a story to back him up. To each his own I guess.

Neegan is a character that you want to HATE and sort of like on some level both at the same time

There's been lots of lead up to the introduction of Neegan in previous eposodes as I recall

But I understand where you're coming from

When Beth died I was pretty surprised

Negan just kinda annoys me. If I were Rick I would just get the whole group to surround and kill him (cut off the snake's head so to speak). Only thing that keeps me watching is how they're going to kill Negan.

They do drag it out but not due to laziness.

Did you see Talking Dead after? Everyone - fans, writers/directors, actors - take this stuff waaay too seriously.

In fact, I think the slow pacing and introspectiveness goes to show a bit of arrogance by the writers. They think this is Shakespeare and that certain themes or characters require an appropriate level of simmering in order to "do it right." They also assume fans like it so much that they'll put up with whatever BS pace they decide on. TWD premiere pulled in monster numbers so they are at least somewhat correct.

Yes!! Agreed! I got the feeling of arrogance from the producers/director. I didn't get a good vibe from them.
