X1 2.3d vs 2.0i (180 hp)
Hi all,
I do plan to buy a new bmw x1. my question is: what engine to choose between the well known 2.3d and the new 2.0i 180hp? Pros for 2.3d 204 hp: - more torque - mature engine but still old technology (including the 6-automatic gearbox) - faster 0-100 (7.3s vs 7.9s on 2.0i) - better fuel consumption Pros for 2.0i 180hp - new 8-automatic gearbox - new engine technology but not mature/tested/confirmed - good torque at low rpm (270 nm starting 1250, but still far from the 400 nm developed by 2.3d) - less noisy. I've tried to find information/opinions from 2.0i owners. Unfortunately all comments refer to 2.8i engine. Any 2.0i 180hp owner that can share his experience with X1? Comments and suggestions are much appreciated BR Amo |

The only prudent comparison you can use is a test drive in both. On paper comparison only tells you so much
And I don't think it is correct to say that the petrol turbo is not mature/tested/confirmed. It is basically the same engine as the 28i but detuned. BMW has got plenty of experience now with a direct injection petrol turbo engine (and their high pressure fuel pump issues) so I wouldn't worry too much. The four is just really a chopped 6 anyway. |

The problem is that there is no available car in Romania with 2.0i engine for drive test. More, there is no car in Romania having this engine.
Unfortunately, my decision has to be made without having the opportunity to test the petrol engine. Any 2.0i 180hp owner that can share his driving experience here? BR Amo |

You may be better off going with the engine you can test drive. I would not suggest buying a car without testing it first in an identical engine/ transmission combination.
I don't think there are many out there with an X1 2.0i at this point. I think the petrol turbo 2.0 was just announced not long ago. |

Not sure about the new N20 engine, but the new 8-speed transmission is really smooth. And the RPMs stay really low at highway cruising speeds.
I believe that the same engine and transmission combination is in the new BMW 520i (F10). Might want to check it out (if they have that over there). The driving feel will be totally different, but at least you can get an idea on the power and acceleration. |
