g2 radio in X1

Hi All- former e90 328i owner looking at picking up an e84 X1, but I want to know what effect the end of support for the g2 connectivity features will have on the car. I assume none of the years of e84 have g3, but are they retrofittable to the newer modems? I'm only looking at models that have nav, so I expect this to impact me more than without. I've tried to search, as I'm sure this has been answered, but I can't find the right words to search for. I generally prefer the e84 to the newer F series on everything but tech, but I really need to know what I'm committing myself to in going with the older X1. Thanks!

Honestly, I've never heard of G2/3 connectivity, but I don't even use a cell phone.

Also, pity bump.
