What's up with My BMW?

Recently the BMWUSA website updated to the 2015 X1 which went into production on 3/1. There were some minor interior changes as well as exterior ones. One change that I noticed is the addition of a silver trim piece on the front air dam. This affects the Base & X-Line models. I think it's unnecessary and detracts from the front end appearance. Glad that ours is MY2014. Here's the strange thing....on My BMW, where they have a photo of your car (not referring to the configurator, but your vehicle profile), it's the MY2015 version not the MY2014 one and it shows the silver trim piece. They didn't do this for the E92 or E90 photos when there were updates in subsequent years.

Are there any new/different goodies in the area of iDrive, etc? Is the touch controller included or no? All I could tell is that the price is about 100 dollars higher.

The configurator shows the same old controller, and I'd heard that they weren't able to adapt the new system to the E series bus. Of course the configurator also shows the 8s shifter in the 35i, so who knows what's accurate?

Steve, I wouldn't worry about the change on your MY BMW screen. the BMW website is kinda crap, and I would be shocked if they took the effort to be serving images from two separate model years for the image displayed there simultaneously. When I first started tracking my car it showed the old model that i didn't want, and then yesterday it switched over to the new model. i'm certain they just changed the images that are being pulled for all x1 orders regardless of MY. And as I recall, yours is among the last of the old ones produced, so not too many people are effected by them changing it now as 95% of 2014s have already been delivered (i.e. BMW said, eh, good enough).

Also, they didn't add a silver trim piece to the front dam, they simply modified it, adding some details and making it wider (this matches the LCI changes to the x3 and the new x4). Personally, I think it's a fantastic addition that provides some nice details to break up what was kind of a bland expanse, and the widening does nicely to balance the look. But as with any visual changes, it's entirely subjective.

The changes are listed here, though not in too much detail: http://e84.xbimmers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=923577

And they were discussed in some detail in this thread: http://e84.xbimmers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=936376

The press release never even mentions iDrive, so I'd say it's extremely unlikely it includes the new touch controller on F cars.

The changes are minimal, though in my mind do substantially improve the car's appearance, especially the interior (you can spot these changes in the photos provided in first link above):

1) Expanded width of silver piece of trim on lower front, and added details to it (now matches x3 LCI and x4). Only on xLine and base models.

2) Made instrument hood softer-touch and added stitching to it, to give leather-like appearance.

3) Added strip of highlight trim material to the dash (can be different materials according to line/option choices). It runs beneath center vents and trim panel.

4) Added stainless steel trim pieces to trunk threshold to protect against scuffing plastic on loading and unloading, as well as adding a little flair

5) Some type of Connected Drive upgrade. This is the one we have no real information about--it could be simply a software update available to all, or an update that requires a newer head unit than previous model years--no one knows, but it's likely minimal.

That's all the changes I can see without being able to see one in person to compare, but there could be other small things as well. I imagine this far into production and with needing to change the production line anyway, they probably also implemented a bunch of smaller, indiscernible manufacturing changes for things that were improved through iteration. Nice to have, but nothing to write home about.

Good points. I'm not worried, just like to keep things in order and since this has not happened before with our previous vehicles when subsequent facelifts were implemented, it's kind of strange that it happened now. But let me correct your statement that not too many people may be effected, it's just the opposite. There's many more MY2013 & MY2014 X1s in people's vehicle profiles and if they all changed....see what I'm saying?

You are right that the visual changes are subjective and some people love them and some don't. If I was ordering a MY2015, I might have gone with a different color to compliment the new trim or possibly consider the Sport Line which doesn't have it at all.

BTW, the photo on my vehicle profile page is missing the xenons, just showing the standard halogens....
