Brake Dust

This X1-35i is my fourth BMW and I have noticed that there is something different here - virtually no brake dust on the front wheels. With my previous Bimmers, after two days the front wheels would be dark gray covered with brake dust - with the X1-35i, there is virtually none after two days. Apparently they have gone to a new brake pad composition. Whatever, I love not having to clean that stuff off constantly.

Agreed, huge change from previous BMW's. I do think the M Sports still get the old style pads, which do help stopping distances, but turn your wheels black quickly. I had my previous car's wheels powdercoated to match the color of a month's worth of brakedust.

My MSport has low dust (Ceramic)pads too. Dude down the street has a 3.5i M and I've never seen his wheels looking like BMWs of a couple years back.
I really like not having to clean wheels twice a week but I also miss that awesome bite that used to come with the "Euro" pads. Give and take.

We have a Q5 with the traditional "Euro" high dust brake pads. I HATE how much work that car is to take care of. (HBWT - you know what I mean.) But on the rare occasion I get to drive the Audi, I am reminded why I put up with it. It simply makes the 28's brakes feel like something from the 80's. It's embarrassing how much better the Q5's brakes feel, and more important how much more effective they are. I'd bitch a lot if I had to deal with that much brake dust on the BMW, but I bet I'd like driving the car a whole lot more.

I have a 35i M Sport and zero brake dust. I don't know what pads it came with but they are the best brakes I've had and the fact there is not dust makes them even better.

My 2014 s28i M Sport had lots of black dust all up the sides of car.

Easy to see with my Metallic white.

I had a track day after that and forgot about the dust, but I don't see any now.

Must have bedded in.

It's a hit and miss these days. Out of the 3 BMW I've purchased from 2010 - 2012 2 Have dust less (lighter color brake dust) and 1 had the traditional dusty as hell brake pads.

I don't know how you guys don't get dust. My wheels get black in a few days and I hate that!
I have made a complaint about squeeking and they will replace the whole discks and that, hopefully I get better brakes.
