Carly connection

Just wondering if anyone has issues connecting the Carly wifi adapter to their iphone like I am.

Just seems like the wifi adapter sometimes wigs out and the app then times out. The adapter will have LEDs will be stuck on red, orange, rapid flashing, orange, blank when this happens.

Even the coding won't work because it says the connection is not good enough and strangely will suggest trying the original Carly wifi adapter. My 1st wifi adapter (Gen2) keeps freezing up and won't even connect most of the time. I bought another one and it is less flaky but also freezes up. Starting to think it's my car! The Carly people are no help and have not responded to my messages.

What are people doing to get a good connection? Special settings or procedures?

Do you turn the car on or just ignition (double start presses)?

just the ignition, never code with the car on.

I had issues the first time I tried to code as well. Was able to read from the car no problem but it wouldn't write anything regardless of what setting I had the ignition in. Tried a second time a few days ago and it worked flawlessly. I did email the programmers the issue I had and they asked me to log a session and send them but I didn't have to as it worked.

I have both the bluetooth dondle and cable. Worked fine with dondle second time.

Is there a difference between the Bluetooth dongle and the cable in terms of coding? Different coding options available? Faster write times?

The cable is faster. I also need to use the cable for my z4m as it won't respond to Bluetooth.

Carley wifi connection works fine in my car with just ignition on or with engine running

For just ignition on only - operate with coding features , use a battery charger

Also use the back up features before coding

Finally solved my wifi dongle connection issues. Someone in another thread said to set JB4 to stock. It worked fine when I did that.

Even better, used the Carly wifi dongle with Carista app (similar to Carly except for VAG) to code setting on my wife's Q5.
