Castrol vs BMW oil video

Interesting video. Funny part is that BMW oil is made by Castrol.

I think they compare apples to oranges. BMW oil is likely LL-01. While Castrol EDGE is not.

This explains why the engines all consume so much oil!

Yep. Shown Castrol is not German Castrol. If they tried GC 0w30 it would outperform BMW oil.

I believe "German Castrol" is the "Castrol Syntec European Formula SAE 0W-30" referenced on the BMW site and is available at larger Autozones.

Correct. I am torn apart between Mobile 1 0W40 and GC 0W30. Both are LL-01. Which one to choose for oil change between scheduled ones. Since I got some of 0W40 on sale for my challenger might give it a try first. I have not seen any sale for GC yet. Amazon sells it for about 8 bucks per quart.

BTW took a delivery today. It is awesome! sDrive28i. Do feel some lag in the beginning (very little). But then it pulls very strong. And I am not pushing it yet.

Do any of you know the best place to purchase OEM oil filters and what else is needed besides oil and a filter between intervals?specifically any washers or o rings that we should be replacing.

I haven't changed my own oil in 3 years. The OEM oil filters came with washer and O-Ring and I guess they still do. I just buy from the dealer.

Going to put my car on the ramp in few days to see what kind of oil pan it has. I think there are two: plastic and aluminum. Depending on this there should be two kinds of drain plugs - plastic or steel. Crash washer is for the steel plug. Plastic plug requires at least an o-ring. I heard that if mentioned parts department would provide the whole plastic plug with the filter. Not sure how true it is though.

Washer is/was for drain plug and O-ring for filter housing.
