Vancouver has the WORST drivers

I have been saying it for years. Vancouver simply has the worst drivers in the world. Its not just that there have been thousands of cases of licenses being sold, or in some cases 1 license being shared by a whole family. The fact is the basic care or ability to drive seems very absent in my part of the world. It didnt used to be this bad, but over the last 20 years has progressively got worse. I have witnessed more times then I can count passengers getting out of cars to direct drivers into parallel parking spots big enough to land jets in.

Permanent left lane drivers, no signals, and a general complete obliviousness to surroundings is the general theme in my city.

Think your city is bad? Beat this.

It's not just Vancouver, trust me.

I get to travel and drive in different places/continents frequently and while this might sound very harsh, ignorance and disrespect for others of average North American driver comparing to Europe or even Australia never stops to shock me.

I can also tell you for a fact that obtaining a license in Canada is a joke comparing to Europe. In my opinion that's pretty good indication of things to come later. Recently I had a 23 year old co-worker, newly licensed driver, buy brand new Golf GTI. She had zero concept of RPM/gears and also mentioned that "blinking thingy" shows up on her dash on snow covered roads...thrilled to know there are more like her I'm sharing the road with when I drive kids to school.

The front passenger tire is coming off the wheel before they even get into the garage. Maybe it was a hit and run, and the driver was trying to get into the garage and hide, all while panicking. This is one of the most bizzare things I've seen.

You are correct, hit and run by a 16 year old.

Sounds like Dallas. Body shops are backed up more than a month here because there are so many accidents every day. Sometimes its a challenge to even get home from work because there are mutiple car accidents within blocks of each other (during broad daylight). Its like carmegedden here each day. Distracted driving and shitty drivers at their worst.

Meh. It's bad but not that bad. People generally obey traffic lights and stuff, unlike in other parts of the world. Try driving in parts of India, Vietnam, China... etc

It's all relative. There's simply no way to make a judgment like this without a whole hell of a lot of first-hand experience all over the world, combined with the same amount of statistical data.

For instance, to the poster from Dallas: this place is not at all bad compared to many, many others.

Example 1: Italy. Drivers there seem crazy on the outside -- and I'll add riders, too, since scooters buzz around you, routinely within inches, everywhere in urban areas -- but they are probably among the most skilled in the world on average because the accident rate there is quite low. It's controlled chaos at its best.

Example 2: El Paso, which makes Dallas seem like Italy.

Example 3: Any large Central or South American city that is not in Mexico, Brazil, or Argentina. I've driven in both Panama City and Bogota (Colombia), and have been a passenger in Lima (Peru) and Quito (Ecuador). I was scared s!@tless each time.
