Interesting to see. I'm not a truck guy at all but according to my 'truck' friends, one gets a bedliner pretty much immediately after a truck purchase. I wouldn't know but that's what they all did.

CFRP bed or bust!

Its not even mildly surprising though, and to be honest neither bed is designed to take that kind of abuse so its a fairly irrelevant test. Even the steel chevy bed is cringe-worthily damaged.

With a reputable bedliner i think the new ford and chevy beds would perform equally well in that kind of testing, especially in the context of what kind of duty the trucks are designed for.

Remember this is part of a paid by chevy advertising campaign and should definitely be taken with a grain of salt.

Yikes. I'm a big fan of Ford's push to aluminum, but that is not a pretty sight. I was okay with it up until the toolbox went in. The landscaping block thing was over the top; the toolbox thing was not.

Trucks these days are the Cadillacs of yesteryear. With options these things go north of 60K easy, 70K is not unheard of. The auto manufacturers know that trucks are the ultimate ****-measuring tool and they are laughing all the way to the bank. I can't imagine doing the stuff that you are SUPPOSED to do to a truck to these suburban warrior d**kmobiles.

Only matters if this is something you would actually do to your truck. I am often surprised at the tests that have little relevance to the average owner.

I drive a Cadillac truck (Escalade EXT). It's not an off-road machine and I don't need it to be one.

I tow with it regularly (my 335 sure as hell can't handle towing our boat). The bed is regularly used for hauling either your typical Home Depot project stuff, luggage/gear for long trips or my wake surf boards/wet stuff from our regular boating trips.

I considered an SUV, as I just got this a couple months ago to replace my Avalanche. Porsche Cayenne Turbo was at the top of my list for replacement vehicles. I opted against it due to how much I actually use the truck bed (and the bed storage pockets - I use them a lot).

I tow and haul shit in the bed. Please explain what I'm "supposed" to do in this truck.

Looks like the tongue weight might be a little too high. You might want to move the boat back a little bit to help even out the load.

This will be useful for all those times I drop concrete blocks into the back of my truck from up high....

If you are doing this irl, youre doing it wrong.

That being said, Im going to stick with a steel bed because when I let my workers use my truck, Im 99% sure this is how they load it.

Because when one buys a truck, a strong consideration is how it can handle taking a load of heavy rocks being dropped into the bed.

Besides, what dipshit gets a truck for that purpose and doesn't get it sprayed with a heavy duty bedliner? These Chevy commercials are almost frustratingly stupid.

Check back in five years when the Silverado bed is completely rusted away while the Ford bed is still there, albeit with a few battle scars.

Or, like people already said, there is this great invention called a bed-liner, and its composite construction is probably more durable and more puncture proof then thin metal (of any type) anyway.

Moving the boat back would be DANGEROUS as it wouldn't be secured on the trailer properly. Boat trailers don't work that way.

Truck has a 2/4 drop (bought it that way) and I need to adjust the level sensors for the OEM autoride airbags to compensate better for heavy loads. There was also 500lbs of river rocks in the very back of the bed in that pic and I probably had 200lbs of lead in the nose of the boat there. I run a lot of ballast when I surf (2000lbs water, 300lbs lead).

I have a Formula Firebird that I've owned since the 90's, bought her in college. Currently in long-term project state with a heavily built 383 LT1 and D1SC Procharger sitting on the shelf.

Good on you for using it. My family bought a 1500 ram at one point with the 5.7 and all we used it for was pulling the 5000lb boat out of the water and short tows. Otherwise, it sat, which usually means a used truck makes a lot more economic sense, but again, if you need to haul 4 or 5 people and have some space for stuff, what you have does make a lot of sense. It's the "too nice to scratch" pretty-boy trucks now that are more about a statement of how manly the guy is, vs. how they are actually used. As they are daily-driven, the % of time where they are "needed" is so small a trailer makes 100% more sense and even renting a truck for the couple days a year may be even better. There are people that use them, no doubt, but the % of use is sometimes so infinitesimally small it in no way justifies them. The auto-companies know that people love these and will go into a huge amount of debt for them.
