Feels a lot like you guys are selling a JB4 since you can't do the usual flash tuning on the platform, and this is a marketing spin to me.

Also having to hide it from the dealer? What are ANY benefits over the jb4 at this point? If anything they have years of experience with piggyback tunes and more powerful options. The Dinan piggyback isn't legal in CA, hide it from your dealer etc... seems like a huge case of foot in mouth where all the constant drawbacks you guys have been mentioning to sell your products, now apply to your products. Are they suddenly better because it is from Dinan?
You are referencing 3 different product lines so that needs to be clarified to begin with.

Flash tunes - We flashed the E chassis vehicles and early F chassis cars (550/650) but when they switched to the new Bosch ECU and the improved encryption we had to start from scratch. We have been experimenting and attempting to crack the ECU since the beginning without much success (bench flashing was possible pretty quickly but that flew in the face of our warranty program so was not a valid solution--- it had to be OBD2). After about a year of attempting to bypass encryption it became obvious that while we may be able to crack it, it may take years (it did). Being a business -- being productless for years is not a reasonable expectation and so the DINANTRONICS Elite was born.

DINANTRONICS Elite - Everyone likes to reference a Steve Dinan Tech Tip Tuesday video in which he more or less says piggybacks are inferior to a flash tune. What is left out is the explanation and reasons as to why most piggybacks are inferior. Specifically stating that they are poorly calibrated because they rely on the knock sensor to signal to the DME to correct timing and fuel to compensate for the increase in boost. Given this is a generalization but its also a 3 minute video. DINANTRONICS Elite unlike most piggybacks connects directly to the DME and not only changes boost but a host of other parameters so the A/F and ignition are changed in unison with the boost and the DME is not correcting for anything as it doesn't see anything wrong. Yes, it is a piggyback, and yes, it is lying to the DME but it does so in a different way then most others. Steve saw he was forced to make a piggyback to stay in business so he did so on his terms and had one made that countered the flaws he saw in the piggyback market at the time. Even so, I don't think you will find anyone that will argue that a flash tune is not superior to a piggyback. The elite unit is just as close as you can get to a flash with a piggyback approach. The elite also still holds the factory matching warranty and does not need to be hidden from a dealer just like the old flash tunes. It is also emissions legal in all 50 states.

DINANTRONICS Sport - Then we come to the sport unit which this thread is about and the explanation you quoted originally. Simply put the market wanted it, so we made it. The market wanted a cheap effective way at more power. Turning up the boost and letting the DME do the rest like a multitude of competing products is the easiest way to do that. I don't think we hide the reasoning as to why the sport product is out there. It was a neglected market for Dinan as we catered to the high end and everyone else was selling these products so we joined the fray is all. I will argue that we feel our variant has perks over competition such as BT control and it will be emissions legal (should be getting test letter any day now according to a contact at CARB -- only took nearly 2 years to get to it in their massive pile apparently) but they are mostly side perks as the device itself and its functionality is very similar to competing products. Just another option in the marketplace.

so then, once you get the CARB letter, will the full capabilities of the unit be emissions legal in CA ?
I hope so because that would certainly make it more attractive to me
