Front Plate Holder

Hey the Texas laws just got much more strict. Does anyone know of a good tow hook front plate holder for the M-Sport bumper with PDC? I don't want to drill holes into my bumper.

Just stick it in the trunk and don't drive after you've been drinking. I've driven in TX and CA without a front plate for 24 years now and never gotten a ticket for it. I've had them mention it and gotten a warning for it, but never had an actual ticket. The TX law just had a loop hole for the last few years where the ticket amount was $0, it was the same as it is now ($200) prior to that.

The big reason I am sucking it up and doing it is I don't want to be pulled over for the plate and have that lead to anything worse, such as post-bar.

Yeah, if that's a factor, then you may want to run a front plate. I'm 40 now, so tend to either do my drinking at home or use a cab to get around. But if you're going to run that risk, better to be safe. I have a friend who's a cop, I'll clarify if it's reason enough for a stop on it's own.

I have the one from Rennline. It's well made.

So here is what I did on our X1 as well as my 1M. I used the factory license plate holder, the bottom clips into some slots in the bumper to hold it secure, then for the top I used some threaded posts with matching SS screws $2 from Lowes, these have low profile and are flat. To the back I used some 3M molding adhesive tape so that the posts are stuck to the bumper.

If I ever need to remove it for a car show, or if I move to a state that does not have stupid front tag laws, I can take it off without a mark. I looked at the aftermarket options and was not happy with any of them. I've had it on my 1M for about a year and a half, after getting a ticket for no front tag, has worked like a charm, and did it right away on the X1. I didn't need to hear about the man hassling my wife for my desire to have a better looking car with no front tag...

Pics in the next post...

These guys have some that have adjustable positions that could help around the pdc sensors. They don't list one specifically for the X1 though...

I used this instead, and I liked it better than the tow hook solution.
