Gas mileage improvement around 3000 miles
I am seeing some improvement in gas consumption around 3000 miles. Previously I could get about 24.5 mpg in my daily commute. In the past few weeks it has gone up to 25.0 mpg and if anything I am less careful about saving gas. I think the car will settle around 25.0 mpg. Also based on miles traveled between gas fill ups I believe the car now gets almost identical mileage to my 328i with manual transmission, although the mileage shown is slightly lower. Considering 300 lbs of additional weight and AWD I think this is pretty good.

Do you drive in "D" or "DS" most of the time? Do you ever use Eco Pro? What's your daily commute like?
Thanks for the input. Here in NH, winter mileage is terrible with different fuel formulation and the cold weather. I'm not looking for the first few tanks. Just hit 100 miles. So far so good! |

I use Eco Pro mode fairly regularly (mostly on the freeway when I use it), and my overall mileage is at 26.1 mpg (keep in mind, when I bought it with about 250 miles, it was at 18 mpg from test drives). I have reset my trip computer a few times for about a week or so, and it settles in about 27 mpg. I am right at 3,000 miles.

I'm in NH and I have been getting 23 to 24 mpg this winter with my 28i xdrive. I use 91 or 93 octane gas (depending on which station is less expensive) and currently have 6,000 miles. The 23-24 mpg is during the sub-zero weather we have been having as well as snow storm after snow storm. When the weather was warmer, I was getting anywhere from 26 to 28 combined. Best was 34 mpg on a secondary road trip. Worst was 22.8 mpg during the recent sub-zero weather and I let the car warm-up a few times at work. My commute is rural roads, better secondary roads and interstate and I am always over the speed limit. I normally use "D" and sometimes EcoPro and ASS. But since ASS doesn't engage under 32°F, I leave it off for the winter.

My average speed is about 38 mph. My drive consists of about 30% slow freeway commute, 30% open freeway, and 40% local roads with 35-45 mph speed limit and red lights. I drive in D all the time. Have used ecoPro and DS just on a few occasions. EcoPro is unbearable. |

Yesterday I took my Xdrive28 out for a gas mileage test. I did 30 miles on the highway at a steady 70 mph. It was about 50 degrees outside and the road had rolling hills. I managed 35.6 mpg. Then I said screw this and drove it like I normally do and my mpg was down to the 25 mpg range for the day. So the rated mpg is more than possible if you want to drive it like an old lady.

I started out being anal about this subject and had the real time MPG showing on the screen. I have the 2014 sDrive 2.8 and now drive it like I don't really care about the gas mileage. I live in O.C., South Cal, and am lucky to get 21 or so for strictly city driving. When on the freeway it will be much closer to 30/31. I really didn't get the car for economy reasons.

I have a 2014 sDrive28i, commuting distance is 100 miles per day. My drive consist of 20% city, 20% flat freeway, 60% mountain freeway (climb up to 3,200 ft elevation and down).
Eco-pro and auto start/stop is always OFF. Mileage as of February 25 is 14,300mi. MPG avg (trip computer) is 28mi My recent long weekend drive of 700mi, 90% freeway, 10% mountain pass, MPG avg is 34. I drove between 70-75mph and engaged cruise control when able. For fuel, I use 91 octane and either Shell, Chevron, or 76. As for comparison, my previous car was a 2007 328i sedan. With the same daily commute, my MPG avg was 23 mi the entire time until I sold it at 60k miles. |
