BMS N55 Performance Intake (Warning)

Hey guys
I just had to fork out $109.00 for BMW service due to my engine light has come on.BMW service has informed me its due to the BMS N55 Performance intake that I have installed. I was under the impression that this would not trip any warming lights and that it was a fully compatible modification. This issue has cost me $109.00 for the service to reset the light on the car and was instructed that it will come back on due to the cold intake was running rich?

I have put in a e/m question on this matter to burger tuning and awaiting on a reply. I never had a issue till I took my long trip this past week.

Has anyone had this problem?

Also while in service I found that the x1 has an MAP update /recall you may want to check into this as well.....

Are you running a BMS tune alongside the intake?

response from burg

I would have told you the first thing to do is to read the code yourself so you know what the problem is before going in. You can do that with our CAN Tool or a JB4. If you don't have a code reader and don't want one then always remove any mods before going in.

In terms of the actual problem if you have the specific code I can give you better advice on it.

so FYI guys although they say it will not trigger any warning it will . In my case it did and now i should buy a CAN tool? i guess live and learn!

Want to know the real kicker? If anything bad happens to your engine, now, guess what is in the service records? "Aftermarket intake installed. CEL thrown due to Rich AFR condition." So you can bet they will blame that the minute anything goes wrong...

This is part of the chance you take with modding your car, especially a BMW. BMW has many ways to monitor changes made to your car. As others have stated, BMS and other companies have made tools to delete these codes so BMW service never finds them, but unfortunately it looks like they already found them in your case.

Sorry you learned the hard way.

I don't believe the BMS stage 2 tune with code deletion is available on the X1 yet (if ever).

Due to DME compatibility issues we do not offer and have no plans to develop an N55 Stage2 tune for the X3, X5, or X6. The most powerful tune you can use for these models is our N55 Stage1.

Stage2 support for the F10 is very limited and not available for all vehicles. Stage2 for the F10 is ONLY available by purchasing both a Stage1 system and a Stage2 add on upgrade kit from the upgrades order page. Stage2 is not currently available for 2012+ F30 335 models. Follow along on N54Tech for the most current updates.
Also, I'm not sure if the CAN tool or BT tool fully support the X1 yet either.

According to BMS, the CAN tool ($129) only supports deleting of codes on the X1 (non of the other features are supported). The BT scanner ($287) can both read and delete codes on the X1.

I have had the stage 2 tune and same intake on my car for over 4000 miles. No problems, no codes, and it hauls ass.

On your X1? Does it feature automatic code deletion, or do you need a tool?

Nice! I wonder if they will offer a stage 2 for the N20?
