I have an 07 CR-V that I was hoping to replace with something a little sportier and/or smaller. There was talk of a new 2.5L engine putting out ~200 with a nice bump in torque also so I was hopeful the CRV would be in the mix. Instead they chose to warm over the old 2.4 and stick with the same non-shiftable 5AT. On top of that they got rid of a few things I like about the 07. The storage shelf in the back, the open floor plan in front and the slideable second row. I've got nothing but good things to say about the 07 but I think Honda had a chance to take it higher and missed it. It will still do well I'm sure but its been out a month and I'm yet to see one in the wild.. The Impreza is actually pretty imprezive but I've gotta wait for this diesel Mazda- I think it'll be pretty sweet if not a rocket even if I'm forced into another slusher.

We drove the '11 CR-V back to back with the '12 model. The improvement was dramatic. Engine was much smoother, and virtually inaudible from the cabin. The interior materials were also a big step up. On paper, the '12 looks like a warmed over version of the 3rd gen, but in the flesh it is quite nice.

Face it the CRV is turtle slow. Consumer reports tested it at 9.1 0-60 and Motor Trend, Car and Driver and others say its about 0-60 in 9 seconds. When you compare that to 0-60 in 6.5 for the X1 that eliminates the CRV from any considersation for me. I was considering the Countryman S and thought 7.2 was slow but its an exotic compared to the CRV.

No doubt. But since the new vehicle is for my wife, her priority is not gunning it from red lights

I think we missed the boat for any March '12 production for a US-bound X1. It will be September or nuttin'.

For sure. We will get the LCI, and that's due in September(-ish).

Regarding the diesel I mentioned a few posts back, apparently BMW is readying a new 215hp diesel for the F20 1 series ("125d"). Currently, the most powerful four cylinder diesel BMW has is 200hp. I really hope that this same engine is the one they plan to use for the X1 in the US. It could mean uncompromised performance vs. the gasoline X1 28i. Too bad it will almost surely cost more than the 28i, however.

The other thing is that there's a rumor from a usually reliable source that the engine will be shared with the Mini Countryman in the US as well. That doesn't bode well, since it seems unlikely that from a marketing point of view, they would wan the most powerful Countryman to be diesel, not to mention the fact that it will then be as powerful, and likely faster than, its bigger brother (the X1). Of course, I suppose they could always detune by 20% or so for the Mini.

Should be interesting. I listened to a podcast interview yesterday with Matt Russell, and it appears that new diesels have already been homogolated. Apparently, the diesels are really tough. Not sure if he was referring to the diesel described above.

Looks like we WILL get a 4cyl. diesel CUV option in the fall- the GLK. Not my first choice but at least its a choice. If they go with the highest spec (they better) it'll be 204/369 and return high 30s highway! While it won't be cheap I'm sure it'll be good.

^^^

That's a nice option to have, but GLK is X3 sized. I'd much prefer the route BMW is going to take (supposedly) and have a 6 cyl diesel in a vehicle of that class.

However, I will admit that a big key with the GLK CDI is that it does have a concrete release date, unlike the both the diesel X1 and X3 for the US.

I'm pretty sure the diesel for the X1 will be a 4 cyl and not a 6. Reading the hundreds of posts I think it's rumored to have 218hp and over 300lb of torque. Like I said just rumors at this point. The current 2.3 I think is a 2 litre and the new one is supposed to be the 2.5 but still a 2.0 liter just upgraded.

I agree, our X1 will get a 4 cyl diesel for sure (as it should). In my post above, I was only talking about the X3 diesel with respect to the six cylinder being a better fit.

I also agree about the engine - either the existing 23d with ~204hp, or a brand new 25d model with ~215hp. As far as I know the new engine is still 2L but I could be wrong. BMW hasn't officially annouced it yet, but its coming to Geneva in the 125d so we should know more sometime prior to then. Of course we still won't know whether it will head to the X1 right away as well, and if it does, whether we'll get stateside or not.

I want a diesel but if its not ready at launch I'll go with the N20.

Salesman Jon Shafer (of another popular forum) says he's very confident the X1 will be coming to the USA sometime in 2012. He's never been wrong in the past. I'm looking forward to test driving it.
