I guess this is really the point. After installing the SB, yes you indeed do go around driving "pedal to the metal" for all intents and purposes. That's what it does. Gives you pedal to the metal before you actually put the pedal to the metal. It's more of a mental thing. More throttle, with less pedal.

Yes, you car is more responsive, no doubt.

since I started this thread, I think I should give my 2 cents....

Before I installed my SB, I experienced cars behind me honking at me from the intersections when stopped and not moving quick enough when lights turn green. Yes, awful lag on throttle response. Now that I've been using SB for the last 2 months, nomore honks!! With the "green light" option, throttle lag response is reduced and I can enjoy driving this ultimate driving machine a lot more instead of moaning most of the times like "why don't you just move, I'm already stepping on the gas pedal!!!". With the "red light" option (race mode), the X1 bunny hops too much for me from the get go. There might be some driving situations where I will need it but for most of my driving needs, I'm very satisfied with the "green light" option for my every day needs. Do I think the SB make my X1 faster? No, that never crossed my mind. Does it make your X1 drive more fun? Hell yeah!!! Anything to reduce that throttle lag response to keep my hair turning gray. Paid $289 for it and I think it's well worth it, great mod!!

Should have said, "So...at 1/2 pedal position, isn't the difference between stock and SB 140/50 - okay, say, 130/50 - rather than the 30% you cite?" My bad.

Something must have been wrong with either your car, how you're stepping on the accelerator or the drivers behind you. Is this your first car with drive-by-wire tech? I personally don't need a device to trick the car for accelerator position.

You can find nearly identical debates at any number of message boards, between guys who have it and feel it dramatically alters their driving experience, and guys who don't have it and say you can get the same effect simply by pushing the pedal harder.

Alright, I guess I'm going to get in on the action and see what all the fuss is about. I just ordered a PedalBox from TWM Performance. It's supposedly more customizable than the Sprint Booster, and it was about $40 less expensive (I found a 15% off coupon code). I'll report back after I've had some time with it.

Guys on the E90 and F series forums have used the PedalBox with similarly good results. I think you'll like it.

Do you have no concerns that you put a device in your car that has full controll of your gas pedal?
It could fail and go full open.

While I'm not comparing a factory engineered electrical component to one of these aftermarket units...

Your car is DBW, so there's already -a device with full control over the gas pedal- which could fail.

In either case...your brakes have about 5 times the power as your engine, so if it fails open, stop the car quickly (before you overheat/fade the brakes) and get it shut off.

Or simply shut the car off right away.

I've been reading a lot of forum posts about these things, but so far I haven't found any instances of them failing.

It would be really, really odd for what is really just an amplifier to fail -on-.

This is my biggest pet peeve with this car, you press the gas and nothing, press a little more .... nothing ... then pwoooooor off it goes. makes trundling around the regular commute and absolute chore.

i have NFI if it is the pedal or turbo lag, NFI, but it's massively annoying.

It's the pedal. Turbo lag can be kinda fun in comparison. That's when you get a kick in the pants after you already started moving.

My car has no lag off the line, turbo lag should not make the car not move is you step on it off the line.
Turbo lag is the delay you feel building power, but these cars have lots of power from very low RPM.

The lag some people talk about is more an indication that there is something wrong with the pedal sensor/pickup.

I’m still running mine, too. Put it on green and unplugged the cable.

Just ordered my Sprint Booster...

Really looking forward to this. The discussion was interesting about weather the device is only re-adjusting the map (pedal position to % open of the throttle body).

If that were all it did, then I'd assume if I just more quickly slammed the accelerator down, it would be the same has having a SB - assuming I could get it all the way down in nearly the same time as I got 3/4 with the sprint booster. However, that doesn't seem to be the case. Somehow, it is getting that throttle body to open *more quickly*.

See here:

In the video, you can clearly see it opening faster, and getting to wide open - or wherever you decide to open it to. In the stock setting, you can clearly see him flooring it, but then the TB taking it's sweet time to get there.

So, if what people are saying about the lag disappearing, that tells me it must somehow effect more than just simply recalibrating how the pedal position affects the % the throttle is opened- it gets it open more quickly - much more quickly if the video is accurate.

Anyway, really looking forward to it, and hoping it will help my car finally react as quickly off the line as my 2001 525i haha.

Cheers.
