Question Comfort Access Fob Hole

Ok, this is strange. Our comfort access fob's work fine, until I try to start the car with the fob in the slot. Nothing. If I take the fob out of the slot, it starts just fine.

The slot holds onto the fob and releases it as I would expect...

Try pushing it in farther, worked for me.

By the way I am also in Cary.

I'll give it a try. The wife's fob works fine, it's just mine that doesn't work in the slot.

Lou, do you have a Blue X1? That's the only other X1 I've seen on the road.

I'm confused - if you have Comfort Access, which is basically keyless ignition, why are you putting the key in the slot? I don't even know why the slot is there on Comfort Access models - I suppose it is just a part of the BMW build configuration. The manual says that the Comfort Access key cannot be charged by inserting in the slot. Instead, there's a battery that has to be replaced periodically. Such is the case with the key for my Lexus IS250, a 2006 model.

My key stays in my pocket....

Usually the slot is only there so you can insert it to start the car if the fob battery dies. It doesn't need to be in there any other time.

The key fobs are rechargeable. They charge automatically when docked.

Right. I was just checking to make the feature worked (for when the battery in the fob does die.)

Only for non-CA fobs. CA fobs have a replaceable battery.

Ah that makes sense. On my Lexus IS250, in that event, one is supposed to pry the push button cover off and use the "valet key" that pulls out of the fob to start the car. I never have had a reason to do that, however.

I suppose this is covered in the X1 manual but I don't recall reading that. And I got a really rushed demo when I picked up my X1...

That sucks you got a rushed demo. I think the sales guys get paid for the demo.
