Do you feel like you sit higher up in an x1?

I currently have a bmw 1 series and im considering getting an x1, i know they are not a full sized suv and was just wondering if they still give you the elavated ride height compared to normal cars?

We changed from a 135i to our X1, and since the 1er has a pretty high seating position for a car, it really isn't that noticeable. In nearly all ways, the E84 drives very much like the E82, just slightly elevated.

I had a F2x (5 doors) 1 series as a company car and now I have a X1 (E84) off my own.

I have the idea I sit higher and I am probably right. (19cm above between ground and car) Also I feel that the car has a little bit more room inside. Build on base of the 3 series and not on base of 1 serie has something to do with it, panoramic sunroof on the X1 give's the idea as well of having more *******.
Looking from the outside I don't think the car is very big, standing behind a X6 I think I will fit in the trunk and when the X1 is behind me I will think it will eat me.
Inside riding I don't feel like I am driving a jeep and sitting very high, I have a good view position over the traffic however.

A X1 doesn't ride like a 1 series tho. Only can compare stock suspensions ofc.

The 116d had had sporty feeling suspension even when it was the normal stock one (16" BMW rims), confort was good for me but can imagen many people find it to hard. Even with only the 115hp I had the idea the car could keep up with other traffic, the car was never tail happy (due to lack off power and good tires).

My X1 (xdrive23da) has also the stock suspension (18" BMW rims and ROF tires). I the beginning I needed to get used on the fact the car feels jumpy on the road.

When taking high speed corners however the car hangs to it side, as long you don't need to go hard in the breaks, have bad weather and road conditions are you are taking S-corners you are fine.

Well, you will have to drive a X1 buddy! I was sold the first minute I was in the damn thing. The car has he's up and down sides (for everyone they are different) so you have to figure out if it is the car for you. Some down sides are scrapped with the right option or tuning however.

Good luck making your choice.

I really don't feel like I'm sitting that much higher than a normal car. To me it feels a lot lower than say something like a Forester or a Tiguan.

With that said, After driving it for a month I had to drive an older WRX and I really felt like I was sitting on the ground. So it is higher, just not so much that it feels like an SUV.

Compared to my Moupe: yes.
Compared to the MCS the X1 replaced: yes.
Compared to the JGC the MCS replaced: no.

Generally, compared a a standard car, it does feel a bit higher but not SUV-like.

You know... Part of it depends on how you position the seat! I like to have it at max height (I'm 5'11") and when sitting like this it feels considerably higher than a normal car but definitely lower than a real SUV.

I came from a 1 series sport and although the X1 is not as high as my old Renault Scenic, it's a lot easier getting in and out of it

This covers it well. It's high enough to give you better visibility, but not so high as to adversely affect handling.
It's higher than my bride's Audi A4, something you notice when switching cars.

You do sit up higher. I have my seat set as high as it will go as I have dodgy back. This makes it a lot easier to get in and out of the car. I'm 5ft 7in and my head is nowhere near the ceiling.

Sitting up higher gives you much better visibility, which I've really noticed on the M25 in the dark. I can see the tail lights of the cars way ahead, whereas when I drive my wife's Fiesta I can't see as far ahead.

Compared to an X5, Q7, Ranger Rover etc... you're low down, but compared to the majority of UK saloon type cars from Audi, BMW, Vauxhall, Peugeot, you're high up.

Like others have said… I was sold on the test drive and felt instantly higher up Go grab a test drive.

I agree, good explanation. I have a 320i SE Coupe and definitely feel higher up in an X1 (which I have on order...yay!) but not as much as say an X3 or X5.

I bought the X1 s28i Msport with front manual multi - adjustable seats.

I'm 73 inches high with tall body, and I couldn't see very good when I received car.

Wow, I had to move the seat as high as it would go with a tilt toward the steering wheel, and about halfway toward the pedals.

Also, I tilt the wheel all the way up, and it's the best driving car, I've ever had.

I went to a sports car track, and I've still got 2-3 inches clearance with my helmet.

Best multi-adjustable seat I've ever had. I have electric seat for driver in my RX8, and hate it. It barely adjusts to get in car, and would take forever if you needed to adjust everytime.

I'm 5'10", but a buddy is 6'4", tho' his trousers have the same 32" inseam as my own.
When we go to visit him, I'll be curious to see how he fits in the X1; car purchases have always been difficult for my friend, because his height is all in his upper body.
He almost bought an X3 some years ago; we'll see how he likes the X1.

i have them both right now and yes the X1 does sit a good 3 inches higher then the 1 series. i need to put my hand on the door shill and push up to get out of the E88 and the X1 is just a easy as stepping out. but i have also lowered my E88 so it really feels like you need to climb out of her. love both of them because they are completely different cars with completely different driving styles

Yep, with its 7.5 inches clearance and the X1's seat semi-command position, it is and it feel higher than the 328i, but not as high as the X3 and Mazda CX5.

I went from a 135i to a X1-35i and it does feel higher, but then the 135i sat pretty low. You can definitely feel the difference in turns but I attribute that as much anything to the x1's A/S tires vs. the 135i's Potenza summer tires.

This is the main reason I got the X1.... I have a bad back, and needed to get a car with a higher & more upright seating position, but wanted a car that drives more like a sports car. My choices were very limited, but the X1 was the perfect choice. Overall the car is not that much taller than a sedan, but the seating position is noticeably higher, and feels more like sitting in an upright chair with your knees bent, than sitting with your legs straight out in front of you like is more common in a sports car.
