BMW X1 Spotted in AZ
Saw my first X1 today, Mexican market car. They often come over the boarder to Tucson. He was driving fast but I managed to snap a few pics. The X1 is really small, I'd like to see it up next to the new X3 and a 3er Wagon for size comparo.
Here are some pics.

Hadnt realised you guys dont have these all over the place as we do in the UK.
Youve missed the most important angle of this car......the droopy front.

The X1 starts selling in May in Canada and has been delayed till fall in the U.S. According to some BMW officials they are still evaluating the engine offerings for the U.S. market.

I saw the X1 next to a new X3 and an X5 at the Montréal Auto Show last weekend and I prefer the new X3 to the X1. The X1 appears to be about four inches lower than the new X3. There was no E91 for size comparison. The interior of the X1 looked a bit ordinary (not necessarily cheap) compared to the new X3 and the X5.

Evaluating engines? Ha - more like they are waiting for the economy to recover in the hope that it will create a bigger market for people who are willing to pay a premium for a small, expensive SUV. Let's see how they price it. This could very well be a big flop if you can literally get a lot more for the money from anyone else.

So a Rav4 or CRV has more for the money than an X1? MAYBE an Infiniti E35 would have more, but that would be the only luxury model in direct competition, but their reliability, build quality and resale value are horrid! |

Its exterior dimensions are close to a "slightly" jacked up 3Series wagon, with a higher roof clearance. In design and concept the X1 is much closer to an Audi A4 AllRoad or a Volvo V70 AWD.

A big flob right. It's pretty much sold out all the production in Europe so that's why it's delayed and why inroduce it in the spring when they are jsut gearing up the X3 and Countryman. Sounds like a smart move by BMW. I wouldn't consider an X3 having already owned two of them but my next car will be X1 or Countryman S. Sounds like BMW is waiting for the 2.0 turbo 4 to be introduced in the 5 series first and then the X1 and then new 3 series.

X1 is an alternative to 3rd series station wagon, which is unavailable on some markets due to low demand for such cars. And X1 is simply more attractive since it's a new model, looks like SUV and gets an xDrive for attractive price.
At least I went to BMW dealership for 318i and finally ordered an X1 sDrive and can't wait till I get it |

If anything the X1's demand has caught BMW by surprise as their CEO pointed out quite eloquently during a recent interview. I won't bother with posting it again as its been mentioned on numerous other threads so do have a look. As far as the X1 in the USA is concerned BMW is considering it to be a niche market with only about 8000 sales expected a year (again BMW figures). Maybe the USA sales takes them by surprise but we will see. This is first and foremost a European product for the market here, and I may add that its unique for the moment. Secondly the Asian (think China) and Australasian market will probably be the next major focus. As others have said: 1. Its a small crossover 2. Its very economical to run. 3. Its a premium product. Now which of those are important to the NA market ?

My slip in the last line, I meant USA not NA. I know Canada is different. My parents-in-law stayed in Saskatchewan (I know its not exactly representative ) for many years and we were fortunate to spend a lot of time travelling around there. More recently my wife's business has a office in Ottawa which we visit from time to time.
