What???

Ummm......Consumer reports is a joke, anyway. Since when is the X1 a large SUV???? Please don't go by anything they say. They listed the Jeep Wrangler as one of the worst values. The Jeep Wrangler has the best resale value of any vehicle out there. I owned a 2010 Wrangler Sahara. I paid $27,500 brand new. 2 years later, I traded it in for $24,500. Had zero maintenance issues with it and even got pretty good gas mileage. It was cheap to insure as well. It was certainly the best value of any vehicle I have ever owned and depreciated far less than any of my BMWs. Consumer Reports is completely out of touch with reality.

If think the NY Daily News screwed up when they printed that. I went on the Consumer Reports web site and no where was the X1 listed as the best. The X3 was best in its class and the X1 was rated very high but think this is an obvious error since we know it's not a large SUV. X1 was listed as one of the most fun to drive and quality rating was excellent.

I agree, a mistake made somewhere. There is no way an X1 is a large vehicle, as CR's latest car guide shows it in compact SUVs. It's not really a SUV anyway (a more overused and inaccurate term does not exist within the vehicle universe), it's a jacked up 1 Series wagon.

CR is not an a car person's guide, it's for toasters, and TVs. Meh....

Good advice when car shopping was always to have a look at CR for things like reliability, and also to read the traditional Carzines (Car&Driver, etc. for an enthusiast's point of view.
Be happy for the attaboy if it's legit, but it seems questionable.

BTW, autoblog published the same report:

http://www.autoblog.com/2013/12/18/c...nissan-armada/

Press the "show press release" button at the bottom of the article.

Also, I think they are judging "best value" not by resale value, but by things like efficiency, performance and features for the money. So the wrangler having very poor gas mileage and being a very expensive vehicle hurt it. The X1 has best gas mileage in class and is the least expensive luxury SUV on the market.

Well it is best luxury/large SUV, I guess they mean the best luxury OR large SUV, in other words the best expensive SUV. Although I believe these should be really two separate categories.

I couldn't find the entire article on their website, but I don't have access to all paid sections.

If you go to the slideshow, you will see that it is listed as best "compact" luxury SUV value. The main article must have had a misprint.

Regarding the Wrangler, sometimes CR just doesn't 'get it'. The Wrangler is what it is, which likely makes it a lousy 'car'. My '02 has been in and out of places that a man can barely walk, but it's not my first choice for a road trip (unless there are mud and rocks at the other end of that trip).
But CR is useful for other info, and as I suggested, have a look at other sources as well.
