Did I get a bad X! ?

Putting aside the run flats and the harder ride they produce here is what I'm experiencing either from any slight road imperfection or even on a smooth road surface including highways:

creaking and subtle rattling noises from many areas on the dashboard. this was worse when I got the X1 so the dealer did some work on it but it still is bad.

rattle vibrations from the top of the window door area over both the drivers and passenger front doors

any little bump or dip cause a plastic thud sound that sounds like it is coming from both sides if the rear wheel wells

sometimes when on the phone (hands free) it sounds as if the speaker in the passenger door is vibrating

last week there was a clanking rattle in the roof in the area of the Panoramic roof

I have even has a warp or rattling noise coming from the rear seat area

I know it sounds impossible to have so many different noises that come and go. Is there such a thing as the car being over torqued when welded / built? Any ideas on why I would have all these rattles, creaks and noises?

Anyone else experiencing any of these?

Thanks for any info

The center console on ours has a comically annoying rattle. You can sort of squeeze the top part and make it stop, but I haven't tried to track the source yet. Otherwise ours is quiet and the RFT's are actually the first time I've had a set that don't make me want to drive to the nearest tire place and replace them.

Wow, that is a lot of rattling! I have just under 4000 miles on my X1 and I have yet to hear a single creak, rattle, or vibration. Sorry to hear about all yours! How many miles on your car? Perhaps you could have the dealer check it out.

I'm a rattle nazi. My seat - I Thought - had an annoying creak. It turned out to be the plastic cover which protects/hides the rail. It clips on and was slightly not clipped on right. The only other thing I really notice is that on cold days, there seems to be an occasional 'tick' above my head near the window or sunroof - but it goes away - and it's only an issue on the frost heaved roads of NH. The roads are horrendous this year. It's not fun driving a new car on these roads! Anyhow, cars are often not silent and I drive on bad roads. So I'm trying to take my wife's advice and turn up the Harmon Kardon. But, alas, once a Nazi...

Garage List
Seems like you have a bad car. Or you're way too picky.

I have 1 rattle from my cargo cover. I only hear it over bumps which bottom out my rear suspension.

But how can a car be "bad"? These things are assembled with components which are prepared for final assembly. Seems like a "bad car" would be a combination of bad luck/murphy's law kicking in as the stars align in just the wrong way.

Mine is leaking all its washer fluid (getting fixed soon) after refilling. Do I have a "bad car" or just a bad washer tank? Hopefully the later.

I do feel for the person with the rattles. They drive me BONKERS.

I am also a rattle Nazi. My X1 (1500 miles) has a knocking sound which we have finally tracked down to the dash. The dealer is going to dismantle the dash but not until next month. I'm hoping that it doesn't come back with more rattles than it started with.

I had a 3 series with a creak from above my head. It turned out to be the way the roof lining was fitted.

I hope you get yours sorted. That much noise would drive me mad.

Sounds like your dealer didn't remove the shipping components that limit travel on the suspension.

So hands like a bad X1, over 12,000 miles and no rattles on mine.

No rattles here either. There is a CLACK from the dashboard if driving over a pothole or rail, which scared me the first couple of times. But I think it's just a cable bracket smacking against the firewall or something like that.

And standing waves if driving with partially open windows faster than a walk. A two dollar rubber deflector strip would have gone a long way to alleviate that, but I guess the bean counters won that one.

Just picked up our 2014 X1 28i today and it's as tight as a drum.
