How's consumption now Hadron?

Hi Hadron, I'm in SA, and I'm also speccing up an X1 sDrive 1.8i Auto to purchase. Like you I'd also like the 2.0d (1.8d not available here) but can't afford it - it's the equivalent of 4200 Euros more - .

I would do a mixture of 70/30 highway/urban driving to work everyday. Has your fuel consumption settled yet? Also, I live at altitude, not at sea-level which does not bode too well.

My main specs are:

Mineral White, Beige sensatec, xLine
Bluetooth, USB
Panorama sunroof, Towbar.

Oh, here on the sDrive 1.8i Climate Control is optional Manual Aircon for me! Not paying another 600 Euros for it, as my total purchasing budget is about 42,000 Euros (base price without options is around 36,800 Euros. This would be before a dealer discount - will be shopping around.

Anyone overseas have a 2.8 liter gas and can you convert the mileage to US gallons. We won't get any of the engines you have except this one so I wanted to see what we can expect to get in miles per gallon.

you can convert Liter/100 km into Miles per Gallon if you divide 235 by Miles per Gallon.
Or you can convert Miles per Gallon to Liter per 100 km if you divide 235 by Liter per 100 km.

Or use: http://jumk.de/calc/verbrauch.shtml

Brilliant post and a good point, mine said 671 miles (1079km) when I filled it up last. Maybe I did not fill it completely

I appreciate the way to convert the number but I need someone with an actual 2.8 liter to tell me how much fuel it is using. There is no information in the US yet even confirming what engine we will get but pretty sure we will get the 2.8. I acn't convert information I don't have.

That is a reply to the 1,8i comsumption some time ago:

It is as high as my X1 xDrive 25i with automatic gear. Do you drive over 140 km/h? Above the consumption goes up.
You can see all X1 consumption in www.spritmonitor.de, so you can get a very good compare.

Sdrive 1.8i

10.5 - 11.0 urban driving
7.8 in highway

only 450km runned - driving either urban on highway with no more than 3,000rpm (thats my dealers advice for the first 3,000-4,000km).

Thats the "egg driving", you drive like you have an egg between your shoe and accelarator pedal!

Xdrive 2.0d auto
Urban drive (Consider very dense traffic in Istanbul) : 8,7 lt/100km
Highway drive (average 160-170 km/h) : 8,6 lt/100km
Total kilometer I have made so far is 5600km.

Dimitris,
IMHO, so called running-in period of first 1000km or more is crap. Engine builders now revealing that it is better to go high RPMs and try to drive at every RPM, in other words, better to drive in variable RPMs in short times.

One guy I know from another BMW forum has the xDrive28i, it's a 3.0 liter BTW, not 2.8. In city driving it can consume up to 16-18 l per 100 km, which translates to 13-15 mpg. The official figure is 18 mpg.

I fail to understand why one would drive a 3 liter gas, V6 engine and worry about fuel consumption...

Try driving in the US and you will understand. We don't have any other BMW options but 3.0 liter straight 6 gas or Turbo charged 3.0 liter gas engines (they call it 2.8 yes I know it's 3.0 I've owned 13 BMW's). I'd love to have a diesel or 2.0 liter turbo charged gas engine and that's my question. If the gas milage is bad I will get a Countryman S but if the gas milage is decent I will consider the X1 2.8 but would prefer a 2.0 liter turbo charged gas engine or diesel.

That's actually not bad at all, and it should get better as you put on the miles.

My point exactly. If gas mileage were the highest concern in buying a car, I would just never consider a 6 or 8 cylinders, much less an SUV or a pickup truck, and I'd stick to a 4-cylinder go-cart.

This is the owners manual page related to driving precautions (page 108). The smoother the first 2000km runned the lower will be the consumption later.

If you don't drive more than 1000 km per month, I think the consumption of xDrive28i is totally fine. You'd need 150 l of fuel overall, which is about $150 in my country.
