Modification Itch
My X1 rolled over 30k miles this morning and I've found myself getting the itch to make some mods (Intake, JB4, Suspension) but am having a hard time justifying since the car is still under warranty.
The X is my daily driver and I put about 30k miles per year on it so we're only talking about another 6-12 months until I'm out of warranty range. Is it worth doing the mods before my warranty runs out or do you all think I should just wait it out? |

If your dealer is as good as mine, they won't care about mods. They just won't warranty the aftermarket parts.
I know some dealers hate mods. My old Ford dealer hated my T-bird because there was basically not a stock part left on it. That car was well out of warranty when modded and they insisted on Ford factory replacement parts such as air filters, oil etc.. My BMW dealer is completely opposite. They probably get more excited about the mods than I do. They're genuinely geeked when my car rolls in. A lot of the cars they sell are modded by them before delivery. They have no problems with tasteful mods, they embrace it as a culture. Ask your dealer what they think, talk to the shop foreman or the guy that does Dinan (if they have it). Don't just talk to anyone, find they guys that might be in the culture. You can start with your SA, they might have an idea who's in the culture or if the dealer in general is a bunch of assholes.

BMW dealers in Germany HATE non-OEM parts. They refused to troubleshoot an O2 CEL on my 135i until I removed my oil catch can.

I for one am all for it. I am just trying to find a reputable Indy shop to do some of the work. I would love to put an exhaust on my car but probably will have to go custom to do. It's tricky when it's your daily driver.
