It'll drop back fairly soon I expect. I've yet to try EcoPro on the interstate, must remember to engage it next time I drive on a trip in the wife's buggy.

My own calculation shows 20mpg (11.76L/100). That's right, not even getting the City EPA, off by 30% by my calculation, left alone the Hwy EPA. I am trying to change my driving style (coast more) and see if it makes any difference.
We don't use the car for commute, only errands, shopping, driving the kids to school and their activities. We live in the downtown core, so you can imagine my avg speed less then 25 km/h. My Garmin also tells me I am stopped 50% of the time. So the ASS was certainly a feature I was hoping to give some relief.

Vancouver might claimed to be a world class city but not when it comes to road system comparing to the US. Vancouver's highway speed (2 lane wide is common) isn't that high most of the time due to traffic, and those live in the city tends to just travel within the city to get all things done. All I really wanted was to high the city EPA.
I believe that Vancouver is a world class city because the city isn't destroyed with a 'high speed' road system. On the other hand some work needs to be done to accomodate left turners and coordinating traffic lights between pedestrians and cars

Low file consumption surely should't be the main decision factor when one purchased a BMW. However, EPA to Performance ratio certainly is on most people's mind. I think it's fair to expect the vehicle to perform up to spec within a reasonable tolerance. I think the Prius drivers would also be unhappy if 0-60 takes 18 sec. even they never expect the car to fly.
Low fuel consumption was never my 1st priority, although it is becoming more important with increasing fuel prices. My gripe with the German cars being shipped to the NA market is that we can only get to 'chose' from gas guzzlers.

On the flip side: I recently made some road trips (Harison Lake, Okanagan Lake) and was pleasantly surprised with highway fuel consumption.
The trip to Harison Lake showed a fuel consumption of 7.7l/100km (30.5 mpg) when driving a secondary highway (70-90 km/h) and 8.8l/100km (26.7 mpg) on the TransCanada Highway (100-120 km/h). Not bad for a 2L turbo with 240hp!

The trip to the Okanagan showed an avg of 9.8 l/100km (24 mpg) and that while doing an average of 115 km/h (72 mph) through the Cascade mountains. For those not familiar: One way this is almost 400km (250mi) of which 265km (165mi) is mountains with a total 4360m (14295ft) ascent and 4046m (13265ft) descent. Not bad for a car fully loaded with camping gear and a family. The drive was a joy as the X1 ride is much more car like then X3 we had.

PS Some one suggested not to use cruise control in mountain driving. I found the cruise control very effective on down hill stretches. No braking needed, and obviously almost no fuel consumption!

12.1 mpg

Halfway through my first tank in a 2014 X1 sDrive..

100 something miles driven, all in the city in LA.. Traffic, lots of stop signs, traffic lights etc..

Computer says 12.1 mpg! Granted I've been blasting off from traffic lights occasionally and driving this car like a little race car with the paddle shifters.

The first 1/4 of a tank was averaging 10mpg, then it jumped to 11mpg, and now Im at half it's at 12.1mpg..

Will keep you guys posted on the upcoming improvements.. Im guessing will take 2-3k miles for the real mpg to kick in.

On newer BMWs, the cruise control brakes if needed to maintain the speed.
If you want to save your brakes going down the long stretches of Coquihalla, shift down instead. Brake failure or overheating is a major cause of accident on that particular road

As for fuel saving, it's frequent small hills where cruise control doesn't do so well - it will give gas on every small uphill and brake on every small downhill, when you could just crest them on the momentum.

I barely used the cruise control on the Coquihalla, too tricky with these curves and I wanted to drive! Going down from the Pennask pass (1741m) toward Okanagan Lake the road goes down to 500m over a stretch of 32km (avg grade 3.9%, more then the Coquihalla). I used 60-70% of the distance the cruise control as this a wide road with wide turns. I recall the engine doing 2500rpm, avg speed was 127 km/h (8th gear?) I never realized the car would use it's brakes too. After I read your comment, I looked it up in the owner's manual.

Agree and that is what I typically do.

The curves are probably why there are so many accidents. It's a beautiful stretch of road, though - I've driven a few times from Seattle to Kelowna back in the days before passports, and the BC rockies are just amazing.

But yeah, rest your foot on the brake all the way down to the valley, and you'll suddenly go down a lot faster than you intended

I am still new, but my first tank saw 21 mpg mixed driving (30% city/70% highway). According to eco pro it got + 16 mls. Not a lot, but still almost a gallon of gas just for hitting a button while on the highway with cruise control on. Not huge, but at least it actually does affect the driveline to save gas.
I agree though, probably useless and annoying just about anywhere else.

Using ECO doesn't make much difference, maybe .5 better MPG's

only 21 MPG

Will the MPG's improve after more miles and if so how many miles toachive a decent MPG such as 24 ?

Thanks in advance
My average for 25,000 miles is 23mpg (USG) probably ^0% HW

19 - 21

My 2013 X1 is about to reach 9K & i drive mostly in city (60% city - 40% hwy).
but this mini beast is giving me a variable milage from 19 - 21. I didn't used eco-pro much until now & didn't recorded a full tank milage on hwy, but i'm planning to do so this week & will update you all once i drove a full tank on hwy with a eco-pro mode.

but either way i'm not much worried about milage cause for me it seems X1 is doing lot better than some 328 with same power engines.

My X1 gave me a shocking surprise by giving me a mileage of 32.4 mpg once & 34.5 mpg once on highways in eco-pro mode.

Knocked out a tank at 15.6 mpg this last fill up! Not the car's fault, it was just doing what was asked of it.

It is incredibly rare that North America (read: Canada or US) receives a decent diesel powerplant. I waited for years and finally gave up before purchasing the X1. Options are very limited, and usually to VW, or the very high end BMW or Mercedes. Unless you want to enter Smart car territory.

Just returned from an approx 3,000 mile trip from Germany through Denmark to Norway and back through The Netherlands and France. The MPG seemed to settle out around 29 MPG with a loaded vehicle (4 adults and enough German Beer and wine to minimize Norway's alcohol costs). Highway speeds were around 75-80 MPH. I don't think that was to bad (didn't bother with ECO Mode).

That's at least in part because European diesel engines can't run on North American diesel, which has a lower cetane number, and still a risk of getting high sulphur contaminated diesel. So there are special versions for the American market.

Doesn't sound bad at all, but which model X1 was this?

I just did a similar trip (although about 1,00 miles). Went round trip from Central Illinois to Minneapolis over the weekend. Got 29.1 MPG with 4 adult men and our stuff cruising about 75. I was very pleased with that - especially since it just finished its break in while on the trip.

I did a trip from Calgary to Vancouver. Started out with 279 kms on the dial. Ended the trip with an average of 28mpg and just about 2800 kms on the car. Really impressed with how it drove up the mountain roads and how little gas it used.

Quite happy with my highway MPG. This weekend I drove from Galveston, Texas to Denton, Texas. Trip computer reports 37.3 MPG. For most of the drive, the cruise control was set to 68 MPH.

I just finished a trip this last weekend and decided to use the car's trip computer in the Nav unit to calculate it, so take that for whatever it's worth. It was 197 miles in distance. Trip computer said avg speed was 72.6mph (a lot was running 90+mph) and it got 25.3mpg. That was burning 93 oct fuel with a Dinan stage II tune and vehicle just turned over 7K miles.

Cool 2013 X1 Mileage

11k miles on '13 X1. Mileage started slow, but consistantly get over 30mpg, mostly hwy, cruise control locked at 70mph. Love the car, very happy.
