2017-1 Nav Map update anyone?

Just wondering if anyone had updated their Premium Nav Map 2017-1?
Mine's pretty old (2013-2).... been holding off. But am thinking maybe it's time to splurge for an update.

For those that did, can you chime in on whether it is worth it?

Just don't go to the dealer. Get a lifetime fsc code for $50 and upgrade yourself.

OK so this is what I gathered...

- there is a contact from bimmerfest that can provide the map/fsc code
- you can also go to http://www.bmwnavigation.net/ to buy one for $54.99 Looks pretty legit.
- For Canadians there is www.bmwfsc.ca similar pricing at $50 for FSC code.

Still looking for anyone's experience. Is that map design the same just with newer updated content? Graphics is abit old. Not as crisp as NBTs let alone Google Maps.

Did you update while running the engine? Or can I switch ignition to ON mode for it? I plan to attach my CTEK charger to keep the battery topped up.

yes, i left the engine running because it took 30-45 min. kind of a waste but im noy sur battery power is good for that long.

maybe 30-45 min it is ok to hook up a regular battery charger but i don't know. i just got a Schumacher Inc-700A which has voltage regulation specifically for flashing.

I updated the map to 2017-1 (purchased from bmwfsc.ca).
The process was straight forward. I didn't start up the engine. Instead I charged the car battery to 100% and left it hooked up the entire time.
Start the car in Radio-Ready state. Left the door ajar (helps to have garage), switched off any lights and switched off iDrive screen via preset. Check-in every 10 minutes.

All done in over 30 minutes. I used separate USB sticks for ease since I have many lying about.

When I updated the maps, I simply plugged in the USB stick into the port in the glove compartment when I was going to run some errands. Even though the download would pause when I parked, it would resume as soon as the car was started. All told, it took about 30 minutes for the complete download. Even if you were to leave the car in ACC mode for the download, it is not going to use enough power to make a difference to the battery.

Updated my 2014 to 2017. Looks like it went smoothly for everyone else except Me 😀. First, I couldn't get any of my cards to format in fat32 successfully, Windows disk part kept saying the volume was too large (all my cards are larger than 32gb). Then I had to hunt for an old 32gb USB, and the only one I could find was USB 2, meaning each folder transfer took 15 minutes each (4 folders). Besides that and the long update times (USB transfers plus nav updates, almost 2 hours), everything updated successfully.

You can use FAT32 Format app to format cards with >32gb.

Probably. But I rather not chance it. Bimmers don't like weak batteries. ECUs and sensors go into fritz.

I did the latest 2016 map update and am pleased.

No need to keep the car running, just leave the headlight switch in the marker light position - this will prevent the ignition from timing out during the upgrade.
